I have returned my G1 to T-Mobile under the 14 day return scheme as i think it is a very poor design.
Firstly it feels cheap and plastic, the keyboard mechanism is clunky not smooth & i think quickly will break.
It is very awkward to use, for texting the position of the keyboard is all wrong, the camera is pointless as there are no settings for it meaning it is virtually impossible to take a good photo. bluetooth headset support only, Very Very poor battery life.. I could go on but basically i think you will get the picture..
This is a MUCH OVER HYPED phone, i'm sure in time Android will prove to be great, but at the moment there is nothing to make it stand out from the crowd, and combined with a handset that also is not very special, means this phone is actually a very poor 1st effort from Google / T-Mobile

the battery life starts out bad, but actually gets better the more you use the phone. originally got mine two weeks ago, and was averaging bout 3hrs of use between charges, up to 6-7hrs now.
My only complaint is with the camera. no settings. NO SETTINGS! cant do anything that even a razr can do. hopefully someone will develop a patch to allow sepia tones, change picture quality & resolution and have video record capabilities

Well obviously google should have made its own phone or commissioned a company to make something unique. Android will pop up on all sorts of phones and it will never be a perfect OS for a particular phone and have correct support because how can you support an OS 100% when you dont know exactly what its running on. This is why the sidekick and the iphone are so great. They have unique hardware and unique software and developers can tweak the OS's of these devices perfectly and address specific problems. Android lacks this.

I agree with the whole polished thing. My G1 is more of a puzzle than a phone.. and its more of a computer than a user-friendly phone. I have a computer. I want a slick, easy to use phone with everything, not something I have to fiddle with. A tech toy is exactly what it is, not something for the general public.

I just dont see the hype. The battery life is extremely bad, the handset is large and weird. Who cares if android is open source? To pay a few dollars for an app you want is no big deal. People just dont seem to understand that just because Android is open source doesnt mean a thing unless something breakthrough is developed. What do u think thats gonna be? I would rather have a much more polished phone like an iphone, where the software was built specifically for the hardware. Give it 6 months, u will see that nothing great is going to come of the phone. Its a computer nerds toy, that is all.

yes it could have been sidekick 5 but if it was it most likely wouldnt of had android os on it. It would be the same old sidekick just a different body style.

I got the G1 the very day it hit stores and I still have it. Honestly the phone is good but it lacks many key essential features that cellphones at this present age and time have. The most important thing it lacks is the ability to send files via bluetooth. It also has poor battery life and has no flash for the camera which renders it's camera useless at night.

Is the screen flushed with the body as in flat with the body like the HTC Diamond for example or is it recessed like older WinMo devices?
Thanks.
