Ricma, 22 Oct 2024LCD does not emit light.Yes, it does, but not from It's own source, but you didn't get my point.
EInk doesn't emit light at all, therefore It's a reflective display...

I had the pleasure to test the previous one, the 40 NXTPaper. And while I truly hate LCD screens I was pleasantly surprised by the pseudo paper display (because it's just an LCD with a physical filter on top of it and some minor software tweaks that generates the impression of being e-ink). It generated nicely saturated colours and hides in an impressive way the thing I have about LCD's, the backlighting. Especially in darker environments it was very nice. During bright daylight (or equal conditions) the screen impressed me less as it wasn't bright enough to cope with the sandy filter on top of the display making it very hard to use under those conditions. On the software side it's a mixed bag. The launcher isn't great, the software support is minimal or nonexistent (same for the security patches) and you clearly see that this phone is originally from China as a lot of the cosmetic options aren't available (or in a limited way). Nothing that I wasn't able to solve by installing another launcher. Holding the phone in your hand isn't so fine as the back side has very sharp edges all around while the screen part is nicely rounded, a weird sensation. In this part of the world these NxtPaper devices are a bit pricey but still OK. Would I go for this one? Yes, definitely if I would need a new phone because many issues of the 40 are solved in the 50 range and TCL also understands that it needs to ramp up the software support thing if they want to stay somewhat relevant in this market.

What type of display is this? It's LCD therefore it DOES emit photons
So no, not eink type or like display

My time with TCL this year marks the first I've laid eyes on a smartphone with a Nxtpaper display. TCL's Nxtpaper 3.0 technology merges full-color, high-refresh-rate power with an eye-friendly, ereader-type look. The result is like nothing you've ever seen.

anon , 04 Sep 2024What's the difference between pro and no pro version? The Pro has double the storage and a 32mp front camera instead of 8mp, not really Pro in my opinion but sure.

What's the difference between pro and no pro version?

Why is this bigger and better than the 50 XL NxtPaper? Otherwise it seems like a great offering.
