The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 will be lighter, pack a Snapdragon 888 chipset

Peter, 20 April 2021

The upcoming Samsung Galaxy Z Fol3 will be powered by the flagship Snapdragon 888 chipset, says IceUniverse, not a surprise considering that the new foldable is expected cost the same as the Fold2.

Also, the cat says that the new model will be 13g lighter than the Z Fold2 (which tipped the scales at 282g). The weight reduction might come from the new Armor Frame, there are rumors that this will be the name of a titanium or carbon fiber frame (which are lighter than steel and even aluminum). Part of that could be the smaller battery (4,275 mAh, down from 4,500 mAh) and the smaller external screen (5.4”, down from 6.23”, same aspect ratio).

However, the new Z Fold3 (as well as the Galaxy Z Flip3) is expected to feature water resistance, which adds a bit of weight. These will become the first foldables with a water resistance, the form factor typically struggles with dust ingress, never mind water.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 and Z Flip3 are expected in July. The indications so far are that the two will feature new generation foldable displays, with upgrades to the Ultra Thin Glass (UTG) and perhaps even a switch to LTPO panels with 120 Hz refresh rate. The Fold3 will also support an S Pen, though (like the S21 Ultra) it won’t have a stylus slot.

It couldn't be more impractical for phone to weigh 400gr and be 14' fat. I am not missing the pre-smart phone Era fat /bulky devices.. And I won't waste 3000€ on beta test device that may or may not have feature even if I had billions ...
