Two Sirocco editions, twelve years apart - Nokia 8800 vs. Nokia 8

Kaloyan, 26 February 2018

This Nokia/HMD event at the MWC in Barcelona was an emotional trip down memory lane. The Nokia 7 Plus may have stolen the show, but the Nokia 8 Sirocco and the Nokia 8110 4G have stolen our hearts.

The banana phone and the famous Matrix handset - the Nokia 8110 - was brought back from the dead with a modern chip, LTE support, and everything. The 8110 4G will be available at just €79 and Banana Yellow is one of the two color options.

But HMD is decided to keep those blasts from the past coming. After the iconic 3310 revival followed by this cult 8110 sequel, HMD dusted off yet another name from the glorious Nokia days - Sirocco.

Do you remember those expensive Nokia 8800 editions - Arte, Carbon, Sapphire, Sirocco? The fluid-like shape with polished finish of the Nokia 8800 Sirocco was quite memorable and is easily recognizable to this very day.

And now, 12 years after the 8800 Sirocco, HMD is releasing a sequel - the Nokia 8 Sirocco. The fluid shape is now part of a glossy black Gorilla Glass 5 on the back of the Nokia 8.

The smartphone has seen some very welcome upgrades since the original Nokia 8 - a bigger and more premium P-OLED screen, stainless steel frame and complete water-proofing, better dual-camera with brighter lens and telephoto zoom.

The Sirocco spirit on the Nokia 8 is sensible in the premium and shiny design, but you can also feel it on that premium OLED screen and Zeiss-powered camera experience with the latest Pro camera.

A lot has changed since the Nokia 8800 Sirocco days, but we are glad this moniker came back. It used to stand for something back then - beauty and power - and the Sirocco Nokia 8 doesn't disappoint.
