Unlocked ZTE Nubia 5S Mini goes on pre-order in the USA
ZTE's smartphones rarely make it to the United States. When they do, they're usually devoid of their original names, being sold as cheap own-brand smartphones by smaller carriers. That isn't the case this time around, though.
ZTE is bringing the Nubia 5S Mini to the US, with LTE support in tow. And it will be sold unlocked, so you don't have to go to a specific carrier to get one.
In fact, the handset is already up for pre-order at Amazon, with an asking price of $279.99. It will start shipping on August 27.
For that pretty low amount of money, what you're getting is an interesting mid-range smartphone. The Nubia 5S Mini has a 4.7-inch 720p touchscreen, a 13 MP rear camera with LED flash, and a 5 MP front snapper for selfies.
Running the show is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chipset with a 1.2 GHz quad-core CPU, aided by 2GB of RAM. 16GB of storage is built-in, though that amount is expandable through the use of microSD cards.
Keeping things juiced up is a 2,000 mAh battery, and the Nubia 5S Mini runs Android 4.3 Jelly Bean.
Compared to the Nubia Z5S Mini that was launched in China last year, the US model comes with a different (slightly lower-end) chipset, and a newer version of Android.

Very good strategy - will be sold unlocked, so you don't have to go to a specific carrier to get one.
