Upcoming Samsung Galaxy J7 (2017) spotted in benchmark

Now that Samsung has made the Galaxy A (2017) series official, we're expecting the Korean company to also announce the Galaxy J (2017) devices at some point in the near future. These more affordable handsets have been leaking quite a few times lately. And while most of the leaks so far have been about the Galaxy J3 (2017), which will be known in the US as the Galaxy J3 Emerge, today we are reminded that a Galaxy J7 (2017) is coming too.

Someone in possession of a prototype J7 (2017) has run Geekbench 4 on it, and as usual this has resulted in some information about the phone being available through the benchmark's results database.

The Galaxy J7 (2017) runs Android 7.0 Nougat at the moment, so we're hoping it will launch with that OS version on board unlike the Marshmallow-bearing Galaxy A (2017) handsets. The J7 (2017) is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 625 chipset, which normally boasts a 2 GHz octa-core Cortex-A53 CPU, but in this benchmark run it was overclocked to 2.21 GHz as you can see. The SoC has the Adreno 506 GPU built-in, and the J7 (2017) also gets 2GB of RAM.

That's the same amount of memory as its predecessor, the Galaxy J7 (2016), but the chipset is a marked improvement compared to the Snapdragon 617 in last year's model. If you're wondering what the J7 (2017) might look like, one past leak has shown us some 3D renders that allegedly showcase its design. Past rumors said the device would come with a 5.5-inch 1080p Super AMOLED touchscreen (up from 720p on the previous J7), a 13 MP main camera, a 5 MP selfie snapper, and a 3,000 mAh battery. That capacity would be 10% smaller than in the Galaxy J7 (2016), so hopefully that detail was wrong.
