Verizon TravelPass lets you call, text, and surf overseas

Many changes in the mobile industry have been thanks to T-Mobile (mainly eliminating phone subsidies in the US). If you had told me just two years ago that Verizon was going to let you roam overseas for a reasonable cost, I would have called you a liar.

Earlier this month, Verizon has announced TravelPass, which will let you use data, texts, and calls while overseas. Keep in mind that data will be deducted from your domestic data bucket.

Canada and Mexico cost only $2 per day and all other countries cost $10 per day assuming they are on Verizon’s list of approved countries.

While these fees are quite reasonable, you still have to make sure that you are traveling to a country on Verizon’s list of TravelPass countries. Hopefully this list of countries will continue growing because it isn’t nearly as large as T-Mobile’s list of 140+ countries.

Verizon’s devices shouldn’t have trouble getting signal overseas since they all come unlocked and have GSM radios. It isn't mentioned, however, if customers will have access to 4G LTE speeds or if they will be throttled to 3G or 2G speeds.

I think this is great for Verizon’s business customers since TravelPass will allow for unlimited phone calls (I assume). This is also a clue for other carriers (lookin’ at you, AT&T and Sprint) to offer better international roaming options.
