vivo announces OriginOS 3 with under-the-hood improvements
During its annual developer conference, vivo talked about its Android 13-based OriginOS 3. This year's release focuses on the background. Animations are improved and you now get interactive, resizable windows for apps that support it , but most do anyway. But overall it's more about performance and under-the-hood improvements.
OriginOS 3 features intelligent and adaptive computing and bottom-layer scheduling. As a result, the system will always prioritize what's important on the foreground but also apply an "anti-aging" effect for 48 months. It essentially means that OriginOS 3 won't slow down with time.
If the system has to shut down a whitelisted app due to insufficient memory, it will record the last state of the app and once you get back to it, nothing will be lost.
An interesting feature that might have potential in the future is related to motion smoothness. If the system detects fewer frames during a transition or animation, it will replace the missing frames with a supposedly black screen and improve perceived visual smoothness. However, that works only at 60Hz mode.
An icon widget folder has been added and you can tap on the app itself inside the folder to open it up. It looks a lot like Huawei's HarmonyOS and Honor's Magic UI interactive folders on the home screen.
Of course, the whole presentation was in Chinese and it was about the Chinese versions of vivo's handsets. However, most if not all of the features will likely make their way to the global units running on Funtouch OS.
