Thought gsm arena will always give the perfect spec. The IQOO Z5 doesn't have 60fps recording at 4k

Vikass17, 21 Dec 2021Finally tried the update. Nothing changed much. Just some w... moreStill on Android 11. Should I try Android 12 as both comes with same FuntouchOS UI overlay version? Everywhere I find people are not happy with A12. With my iQOO Z3, I feel performance and smoothness was better on A11.

Shadows, 01 Nov 2021Underrated phone. Probably because it has LCD display, but ... moreRightly said, a very underrated phone. Frankly for INR 21.5K ($278, €265) for the 12/256 GB memory variant it is a MEGA deal in India. A week back there was INR 3K Amazon discount coupon along with INR 2.5K card discount. The performance it offers with LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.2 storage is amazing for its price and the IPS LCD panel is also very good.

Only the Realme X7 Max was a better phone in this price range, but no more available.

Hemant Kumar Sharma, 25 Sep 2021It's launched at 21.5k. Too keep it at 20k price point... moreI have both the iQOO Z3 & Z5 and can vouch Z5 have a slightly better IPS LCD panel. Slightly brighter, slightly more vivid than Z3. I don't mind that both comes with IPS panel, because both phones have one of the best LCD money can buy. Also the display is HDR10 certified with support for Widewine L1. So games or online movies over OTT platform, both runs as butter.

Vikass17, 21 Dec 2021Finally tried the update. Nothing changed much. Just some w... moreiQOO Z5 is indeed a great phone. What is more important is at INR 21.5K ($278, €265) for the 12/256 GB memory variant it poses a great value, something which iQOO is known for.

The more I use the phone, more I fall in love with it. A smartphone needs to get the basics right, to me every phone needs to have great call quality, reception quality. This is where I find my Z5 excels, as the earpiece is loud and clear while taking calls. The modem supports dual SIM 4G VoLTE, however it has support for only two 5G bands with the most important N78 band included in the list. However I am least bothered as it will take another 3 years in my country to start 5G. The phone has excellent 4G carrier aggregation support which is more important to me as of now.

Z5's camera seems to be lifted from iQOO Z3 and performs decently for its price. Nothing amazing, but does the job. The trump card of the entire Z5 package is undoubtedly the Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G SoC built on latest 6nm TSMC nodes. Its performance comes very close to that of an Snapdragon flagship 8-series chip like Snapdragon 860. The other aspect of 778G is it runs very cool. To run a highly customized heavy skin like FuntouchOS 12 over Android 11 you need ample amount of performance which the 778G provides with ease with 12GB of RAM.

In contrast iQOO Z5 obliterates my Samsung Galaxy A52s in gaming with the same 778G, because it is built with gaming in mind. With Z5 I get 12GB of much faster LPDDR5 RAM and 256GB of way faster UFS 3.1 storage. Dedicated cooling solutions for the 778G is present here with large vapour chambers. This phone will provide better battery backup with its bigger 5000 mAh battery even at 120 Hz refresh rate enabled. It comes bundled with very fast 44 watts wall charger. Even the iQOO looks as premium as the Sammy.

The iQOO Z5 even though made entirely out of plastic, feels nice in hand, I don't think plastic build can get any better. I generally look for three unique set of criterias while buying a phone which are gradually omitted by mobile phone manufacturers, so as to buy them separately and fill their bursiting coffers with more money. These are presence of a 3.5mm headphone jack, a must, microSD card expansion option and a wall charger included in the box. Fortunately this phone comes with two of them while 256GB onboard storage is enough for me to skip microSD option.

I hate TWS replacing the wired headphones, because TWS is technically incapable of reproducing the sound quality of a high quality wired earphones. Fortunately Z5 comes with headphone jack just like my A52s, though the sound quality is a tad lower than the Samsung. The big 6.67 inch IPS LCD display used is of very high quality and is HDR10 certified. I like the display even though it is IPS, because it is one of the best LCD display I have seen lately. The stereo speakers are great too.

Performance and fluidity of FuntouchOS 12 over Android 11 @ 120Hz refresh rate is flagship grade. I am yet to update to Android 12 as it too sticks with FuntouchOS 12. Hence no new noteworthy functionality is introduced, just backend upgrade to Android 12. I truly love the software experience provided by this phone and how fluid and stutter free the powerful SD778G is keeping it. I watched quite a few YouTube videos of how to initially set-up FuntouchOS as you need to be careful else the phone will be filled with junk apps and spam notifications.

All in all very satisfied with the iQOO Z5. Fantastic phone for its price, perhaps the best Z series phone of iQOO, even better than recent iQOO Z6 Pro. Just grab it for the price I paid after coupon & card discounts on Amazon.

Am disappointed after buying Samsung Galaxy M52 over this as am getting only 6.5-7hrs on-screen time compared to 11-13 hrs on my Ltd Vivo. Also was sure Sammy would give 3 SW Updates but disappointed that they are only 2 major upto Android 13. Had a Vivo Z1Pro earlier which gave 2 major updates from Android 9 - 11. Should have picked this one for the battery life. If only Vivo-iQOO had not removed the call recorder feature in this.
