The US $440 price tag in the Philippines is for the paltry 8/256gb variant fyi. That kind of pricing for a paltry specced phone is ridiculous. Vivo is following Samsung in terms of under-specced but over-priced phones.

This is US $440 in the Philippines and it is expensive for a phone that uses SD 7 Gen3 and UFS 2.2. Looks like Vivo splurged on the Zeiss branding on this phone and went overboard on the price tag.

anonymous, 16 Sep 2024What do you mean by giving stereo speakers? it already has.The V30 series and older didn't have stereo speakers, despite other brands like Samsung and Xiaomi giving stereo speakers to their mid-range phones since 2021 or 2022. People have been asking for stereo speakers ever since the V21 in 2021.

Not worth the price tag, at least no without 3x telephoto camera. And the frame is made of plastic or such expensive phone is a shame. Frame should have been aluminum instead.

Overpriced it may be, it's about damn time they gave stereo speakers to the V-series.
Sadly, the haptics motor is still naff like low-end phones.

Owned the A55 8/256gb for almost two months and it has minor stutters here and there too but that is expected on OneUI coz my S323U had it too. Android 14 is heavy and ufs 2.2 won't just cut it in 2024.

There are a number of devices functioning smoothly albeit running a heavy UI on top of ufs 2.2. I own both Galaxy A52s and A55 both running one UI 6.1 along with good lock customisations and never noticed any stutters or lags on normal usage. (FYI: A55 uses UFS 2.2, not 3.1, thanks to samsung being a cheapskate) And One UI is a very heavy skin in comparison to Funtouch OS. With knox security, good lock, samsung apps that cannot be uninstalled and tons of built in customisations and tools, One UI still managed to run smooth and even pushes out monthly security updates.
I'm pretty sure Vivo v40 would lag with a UFS 3.1 or even 4.0 until they fix the root cause. X70 was released with Android 11 and may not have lagged, but their OS worsened with each incremental update.

Yes, its partly the OS but it is made worse by ufs 2.2 since Android 14 is already heavy by its own. Vivo cuts corners on storage type and asks for higher price tag which is a scam.

Fizz, 01 Sep 2024Let me break it down for spec only people. Is UFS 2.2 old ... moreHave you owned the V30 which is essentially the V40 with a new design and upgraded cameras? The V30 with 12GB of RAM and UFS 2.2 lagged more than a Samsung A55 with 8GB of RAM and UFS 3.1. Big difference when you've used it for a couple of months compsred to the one who relies more on spec sheet. This day and age UFS 3.1 should be the minimum because Android animations becomes heavier and heavier snd taxes the hardware more than before. Do yes, UFS 2.2 is now considered old.

Is UFS 2.2 old ? Definitely.
Is it fair for brands to use that in current smartphones Absolutely not at this price.
Is Ufs 2.2 a bottleneck on modern devices ? Now that Depends.
The average sequential and random read write speeds of ufs 2.2 are more than enough to run any optimised system, fluid. Then what might it affect you ask ? Opening/startup speeds, processing speeds of intense tasks. The stutters and lags on the other hand are due to unpolished and crappy software and it's optimization. Funtouch OS is renowned for it.
So unless you're running a very intensive task, let's say 4K video editing. The SoC may be fast enough to process the instructions but the storage will not be able to feed and store data at the same rate resulting in slower progress/ longer task duration.

Anonymous, 28 Aug 2024Nah man the best blue toof codec is LDAC for quality, APTX ... moreIt is 1200kbps for aptx lossless against 990kbps for LDAC. And LDAC cant even keep that up there. There is no other codec so close to CD quality as Aptx Lossless. So if I go for a phone without jack, I want that codec at least. I will buy the tws to go with it. Sennheiser Momentum TWS 4 look pretty tasty. But there are cheaper options which support aptx lossless as well.
