Why all flagship China phone doesnt support sd card?

joe nodden, 03 Jun 2020Oh my god 4K30? IT HAS THE 865! And a 50MP sensor! Why not ... moreI am wondering this as well. No 60FPS video really sucks.

AnonD-731363, 03 Jun 2020I expected a bit miore to be honest. Same here, what a disappointment.

The brand new X50Pro and Pro + is the next set of compromises, where there is less and less good, and almost nothing new is added, only the matrices change. The new release lost 3.5, as well as in the previous release there is no dedicated slot for SD or NM, again a hole in the screen instead of a motorized module where you could place 2 or even three compact modules including a flash, but no, there is no hole in the screen autofocus like that of Huawei, there is no second module, as before, there are no stereo speakers either. The complete loss of the original appearance and mixing with the gray mass of other impersonal smartphones.

skobb, 03 Jun 2020They had a big section at the release event dedicated to ta... moreYou are correct, Vivo X50 Pro+ does indeed pass analogue audio signals through its USB-C port. You can pass either analogue or digital audio signals through USB-C. A phone which passes digital signal will need an audio dongle with DAC embedded in the dongle. Take latest Meizu 17 series as an example.

In 2018, my Vivo NEX S came with an 3.5 mm audio jack. It's audio subsystem consisted of:

              DAC: Cirrus Logic CS43199
              Operational amplifiers: 3 X Analog Devices SSM6322.

All op-amps and the DAC were put in a single custom audio chip (SIP) to reduce space occupied in main PCB of the smartphone. If you can remember, NEX S was the first smartphone in the world with a pop-up selfie camera. The pop-up mechanism occupied a large volume inside the phone, so Vivo have to go to extremes to reduce size of every component used inside the phone. Hence a single HiFi chip solution.

Vivo NEX S HiFi audio chip specs:

              1) Dynamic Range: 130 dB
              2) THD+N: -115 dB
              3) Native DSD payback support: Yes
              4) Audio playback support: Upto 32-bit 384kHz PCM, DSD64, DSD128
              5) Headphone max output power: 2 Vrms

Coming back to the newly launched X50 Pro+, it seems the newer Cirrus Logic CS43131 used inside X50 Pro+ is a slight downgrade from NEX's CS43199 implementation. Both DAC's have same SNR, THD+N & max output power of 2 Vrms as per Vivo, but something is missing for sure as the newer chip numbering CS43131 is lower than NEX's CS43199. Maybe native DSD playback support is missing on X50 Pro+, a niche and very rare feature among smartphones and loved to the core by audiophiles.

Disadvantages of using audio through USB-C as opposed to conventional 3.5 mm audio jack:

              1) I cannot directly plug in my expensive over-the-ear, open-back headphones which comes with industry standard 3.5 male audio jack to X50 Pro+.

              2) I have to buy/use a USB-C to 3.5 mm female audio jack dongle. I hate dongles.

              3) Since now the dongle is inside the audio chain it will induce some noise and headphone drive will take a slight hit due to transmission losses.

              4) The probability to losing tiny dongles in home and outdoors are pretty high. If lost I as lame as a duck as I cannot listen music.

              5) USB-C headphones are pure crap in terms of audio fidelity.

              End Result:

              1) I will never buy Vivo X50 Pro+ if music listening is one of my top priorities. I rather get the Vivo NEX 3 which comes with an audio jack and a respectable dedicated AKM AK4377A DAC.

              2) I am a music lover and smartphones with good audio quality from 3.5 mm audio jack attracts my attention. In that respect nothing from Vivo after NEX S in 2018 moved me. Hence I rather get the LG V60 over Vivo X50 Pro+.

The first vivo phone without a headphone jack. Please dont do this anymore.

Even if it doesn't have a headphone jack I imagine it would be an amplified output through USB-C?

Please explain to me if/why there's a disadvantage of output via USB-C as opposed to 3.5mm, I don't know much about it but I feel like they wouldn't waste their money putting a CS43131 in if it's unusable.

Oh my god 4K30? IT HAS THE 865! And a 50MP sensor! Why not 8K30???? Or at least 4K60, or even 6K at slightly more than 30 fps? The whole point of this phone is that new sensor, and they're not gonna put it to use?

Weird that the camera bump on the X50 Pro non plus variant looks bigger than this one, it looks likt it should have the larger sensor, but this one has the larger sensor.

Remember guys this pro+ model doesn't have gimbal system

The GN1 sensor is too big to accommodate it

Only the x50 pro has the gimbal system

Vivo & LG are last of the two living Mohicans who stood beside our beloved 3.5 mm audio jack. Moreover Vivo is a pioneer in mobile HiFi music, they were among the first to introduce dedicated audio DACs in smartphones. My Vivo X5Max launched 6 years back is still a living testament to that.

As a music lover down the line I bought many of their devices in India just for its audio quality through the audio jack. I had their Vivo Y27L, Vivo V1Max, Vivo V3Max, Vivo V5Plus, Vivo X5Max, Vivo X5Pro, Vivo X21 & finally the Vivo NEX (Vivo NEX S in China). All of them were Google certified by Vivo India and had dedicated audio DACs. In the end I only kept the iconic ones and sold the rest. As of now I have just 4 of them mentioned below:

                            1) Vivo Y27L (AKM dac): Kept just because if its compact size.

                            2) Vivo X5Max (ESS dac): An icon, phenomenal audio quality, slimmest phone in the world, great AMOLED display, flagship built quality. In China considered one of the best sounding smartphones of it era.

                            3) Vivo V5Plus (AKM dac): The last V series phone that was not made out of junk plastic. Good audio quality, great built quality, a refined product with good battery life.

                            4) Vivo NEX S (Cirrus Logic dac): The first proper flagship from Vivo, surpassing anything they had made till 2018 in terms of both quality & price. A phone that puts Vivo X series to shame. Nothing was spared, and only the highest quality components were used. The only other Vivo that could beat the magnanimous X5Max in audio quality and headphone drive capability. The NEX S is still considered the finest sounding smartphone that came out of China. None of its successors could beat it in terms of pure audio quality.

Lets hope Vivo does not drop the audio jack from its true flagship lineup, the NEX series.

                              Very interesting device...no WiFi 6(802.11 ax)?SD 865 supports it...
