Well, heres a thing.
The company that makes the VK4000 appears to have gone bust (see Wikipedia of all places). They went bust some time ago... several weeks ...so you have to ask yourself "why are Virgin still selling this phones". there is No Customer Support Anymore. Things such as sync cables that should have been part of the package are not. In fact I got mine from M-99.com but its next to useless because you cant download through it. there is no driver for the phone available, it is not present in the PC-sync software available from the still up and running VK website - try ringing the customer support number there is no response.......
As for the MP3 capability - a nightmare. As I said you can't down load files from the PC onto it because the PC can't see the phone without a driver ---- AH! I hear you cry, but it uses micro SD cards you can stick your songs on that .......wrong. Some people have been able to get some SD cards to work, but I have tried two cards both 512k one from Sandisk and one from Kingston and the phone recognises neither.....Brilliant, about 30 quid down the toilet.
I cannot recommend that you spend your hard on cash on this phone however cheap or cute it looks, its a waste of money.
If anyone has any suggestions to solve the micro SD problem or the MP3 problem please post

Whoops,
Just found that I CAN send MP3s via Bluetooth at the amazing speed of 9k per second? (Sony is 5 times faster).
Also found that I can send pics via Bluetooth to Apple Mac but can't browse the phone from the Mac like I can with the Sony

Well let's start with the good news first:
Available from Virgin for £69.99 (including £25 of free airtime).
A nice small design and feels well constructed. the phone looks pretty stylish in a Samsung D600 kind of way.
The phone is well specced for a budget phone, with Java Games, Bluetooth (more on this later), polyphonic and MP3 ringtones and an MP3 player, a diary feature is included too. Lastly a camera and flash is also included.
the backgrounds/wallpapers are animated and look good.
the phone slides open with a nice feel (and also a sound if you so desire).
The bad things I hear you ask?
Well the Bluetooth does not have full functionality so say goodbye to any ideas you may have about "syncing" your diary or contacts, or even loading MP3s videos or Games via Bluetooth.
The camera quality leaves a lot to be desired. (and with no Bluetooth, there is no way of getting them off to your PC).
There is no Radio facility or Push To Talk
There is also a major problem with the screen as there is no facility for a screensaver. So the only way to know if you have missed a call or text is to slide the phone open, which means you spend a lot of time just checking. (although you can get the screen to light up for 5 seconds every 2 minutes. This really is unforgivable and spoils the phone in quite a major way.
Lastly the menu system is very poorly designed, with next to no thought about the human/phone interface. Pressing the middle (joystick) button causes the Internet function to start. (On Sony phones it starts the menu.) To write a text you have to do the following:
Slide phone open
Press left "soft button" (Menu now starts with Virgin Extras item)
Press joypad to right
Press centre button
Select Short Message
Press write
Now enter the text (one word at a time, the words appear at the bottom of the screen before entering the main text message).
NOW WHATEVER YOU DO BE Careful, one press of the Right Soft Button, Off key etc and you will go back to last menu item and your text will be lost forever. (thats right it doesn't even save it as a draft!) Don't press middle button while entering text or current word will be lost
When your finally happy with text
Press middle button
Now left Soft Button (For Contacts)
Select required contact with Middle button
Their number now appears
Press Middle button
Hardly intuitive is it? You have a similar wade through menus to read or even to delete a text.
The Camera is also counter-intuitive, slide it open, press camera button on top of phone, A menu appears asking whether you want to take Photo or Video. Select Photo and then gasp at a picture of a pink phone for 4 seconds while you wait for camera application to start. there is the customary delay while the photo is saved, but this appears to be one to two seconds longer than I am used to with Sony Ericcson K608i, this is hardly ideal for quick snapshots.
The only way I can see that you can load MP3s is via a USB sync cable (NOT Supplied!) or possibly via a memory card (To Be Confirmed!)
Virgin were selling the Sony K750i for £79.99, ok so you only get £5 of free airtime, but the differnce is enough to make me want to take the VK4000 back and exchange it.
Virgin appear to be the only company stocking the VK 4000, the only colour I could find is Silver.
Overall, Not a bad phone but not as good as the Specs suggest and if you're used to well designed menus etc. (eg Nokia/Sony Ericsson) you will soon get frustrated.
My advice? There are better phones available

hi all...here is a brief refiew of the VK 4500 for all those who wonder if its good or bad. actually, its both--good and bad. for those who are after a video phone, this is not the right handset as it records only less than a minute and no sound is included. the screeen is one of the best I have ever seen and the bluetooth is working properly. for those who find difficulty, just make sure the bluetooth is turned on and visibility is shown to all not hidden!!! if the problem persists, then you can pair the phone with the other device...you will be asked for a password-- it is of your own creation...say 0000 or 1111 or 00 or just 0.......
if this problem still unresolved, then you have to make sure that you are not transfering a file which is not supported, mainly a large video since the handset does not support long sound-included videos. but it can take MP3s, pictures and other files...
as for the camera, its a VK standard though there is now WOW factor in it...
finally for such a price, the phone is not bad but for those who want a video and sounded record phone, they should avoid this one and opt for any samsung, which is capable of recording long videos with sound and doing also sound records for at least one hour.
best
