Weekly poll results: the Nothing Phone (2a) shows great promise, but good reviews are vital

Last week’s poll shows that people are excited for and dubious of Nothing’s first mid-ranger in equal measure – half of voters are interested in the Nothing Phone (2a), but there is an even split between them. Half like what they see and are ready to press the “buy” button, the other half need proof that this phone is as good as it looks.

The phone was strong out of the gate, selling 60K units in 60 minutes immediately after it launched, a number that grew to 100K by the end of the first day. But Nothing knows how to generate buzz, the real question is whether the selling frenzy will continue or maybe things will taper off.

People who didn’t like it knocked it for its basic IP54 dust and water resistance and the plasticy build. The cameras aren’t perfect either, however, it’s hard to get a telephoto lens in this price range (even a 50MP ultra wide is rare).

The design is an acquired taste, but it is fairly unique – even among Nothing phones. And as far as software is concerned, Nothing has been focusing on adding more style than bloat and it is serious about software updates.

The first update already arrived with support for Ultra XDR in the camera and improvements to HDR image capture. It tweaked app performance, animations and the touchscreen experience. It also added some new widgets – controversially, this includes a call recorder (which might be illegal in some places).

Nothing nailed the placement of its first mid-ranger and there isn’t too much overlap between people looking at the Phone (2a) and the Phone (1) or (2). But the mid-range segment has some capable competitors, which might draw buyers away from the new brand.

Still, things are looking up for the Nothing Phone (2a) and will only get better if it can prove its mettle in reviews. We are already working on our review, so we will find out soon.

Much better buy than A35 though.

Compared to some other midrangers like Samsung A35 or A55 is way better for a better price. Also there arent much lot better phones available for global sale on market. Honestly its a good phone for anyone who dont want to spend 1500 on flagship ...
