Furkan, 16 Feb 2023maybe because snapdragon 8 gen 1 does better with chipset h... moreThis could be a real factor and we definitely need to keep that in mind. Some newer devices (manufactured date) may have a better cooling solution after all that criticism. Overall, I'd say that 5h SoT is really bad with light usage. Even when underclocked to be on par with the SD 870, it still excessively drains too much power, even with one single input. Considering the great battery lifes on most Xiaomi devices, I'd say that the Xiaomi 12 is one of their devices which does extremely bad when it comes to battery life and efficiency.

Furkan, 16 Feb 2023but unfortunately I think your phone gets very hot in the summerIt will surely. Here in Austria we got like 7°C here and indoors, I probably have 20-22°C and it was still overheating. I have never had such problems on any of my other devices. I'm coming from various devices. I have used the Mi 10T Pro, a bunch of Galaxy S series devices such as the S10+ (my gf is using it rn and she's really happy with its battery life), an iPhone 13, a Nothing Phone (1) and then I switched to the Xiaomi 12. idk why I switch devices frequently but the Nothing Phone was the coolest device I have ever had. No overheating, no performance drops but the software was really buggy and I couldn't wait till that gets fixed.

alottaJ, 16 Feb 2023Well i don't know why your Xiaomi 12 with such tempera... moreI don't know either. The Xiaomi 12 reportedly uses a very bad cooling solution, comparable to any average SD 870 phone and that's why it's heating up and when it gets hot, the batery drains much quicker than it should. My Xiaomi 12 was manufactured in May 3, 2022. I guess it's not one of the first devices or at least not in that batch. Let's see how the Oppo Find X5 performs..

Anonymous, 16 Feb 2023s21 fe or this xiaomi 12? S21 FE, my friend uses one as his daily driver, he is really satisfied with its performance. The Snapdragon 888 is somehow doing better than the SD 8 Gen1 and I'm sure that no one really needs that power, both are very fast SoCs but unfortunately, the SD 8 Gen1 does make it worse when it comes to sustained performance and heat generation.

alottaJ, 14 Feb 2023That's truly impressive SoT I got 5 to 5.5 hours ave... moreNow, to my last post.. the phone is unfortunately not always getting that SoT. For some reason I got 2h SoT with a full charge, no matter what I did on the phone (basically nothing). Therefore, I'd suggest you @Anonymous from "Kx6" to not buy the Xiaomi 12 unless you want to deal with a lot of problems. I returned the device and will get the Oppo Find X5. It is - reportedly a great device despite having a SD 888. The Mi 11 lasts much longer too, and for a comparison, I did run the same stuff on both phones, the Mi 11 had no dark mode enabled tho. 3h SoT and 58% remaining. That's absolutely fine, no modifications on the Mi 11. Get yourself a Mi 11 which has been manufactured a bit later, not in the first manufacturing months as these phones had a problem where the WiFi chip got fried because of excessive heat. The Mi 11 I have is actually pretty okay, my sister is using it right now, but to be fair, she's only texting on WhatsApp and rarely uses Instagram.

Oh, and yeah.. it will not throttle the performance, as it doesn't get as hot as it did before. Even if it does, I completely disabled thermal throttling.

Furkan, 13 Feb 2023Okay :) but my next phone is Xiaomi again i want to buy xi... moreOk, so I found a real fix for those who like the Mi 12 and its features but don't really need that SD 8 Gen 1 speed. I have successfully underclocked the CPU and GPU and also changed the scaling governor to "schedutil" which is known for optimal battery life and performance. I have also switched to "none" I/O scheduler and aggressively reduced impact on the Prime core, as the prime and the GPU is the reason for the overheating issue and also for the high battery drain. Right now I got 3:36h SoT, 53% left, it's the same usage pattern and now I even enabled Bluetooth and it's always connected to my watch. GPS is on, temps are very low, device feels a lot cooler and is on par with a SD 870/888, even more efficient I'd say. This is the only fix to be honest, as I said before, the chip is too fast and relatively inefficient, but the stuff I have listed above will definitely help to get a better battery life and thermals. To sum it up, I'd definitely recommend it for those who want to use the device for at least 1 year. And to be honest, no one requires that high power on a mobile...
