Xiaomi 12 now rumored to debut on December 12
The end of the year is nearing, and you know what that means, right? No, we don't mean Black Friday, nor the "holiday shopping season". Qualcomm is going to unveil its newest flagship chipset on November 30, and after that the race is on - for the first phone to be announced with it at the helm.
Both Lenovo-owned Motorola and Xiaomi are contenders this year, apparently, and while it's unclear which one will "win" this dubious competition, according to a rumor out of China today the Xiaomi 12's announcement date has been set (although not made public yet).
It will be December 12, because 12, 12/12, and symmetry all over. Allegedly the initial idea was to hold the event on December 16, but that's not a 12. So, if this pans out, the unveiling will happen on a Sunday, since that's what December 12 is. Weird, but ok.
One recent rumor claimed that the Xiaomi 12X would be announced alongside the 12 at the same event. Don't hold your breath for a 12 Ultra, though - that one is almost certainly coming later, in 2022.
The Xiaomi 12 is said to sport a curved screen with a center hole-punch for the selfie camera, 120 Hz refresh rate and "2K" resolution, dual speakers, and a triple rear camera system with a 50 MP main sensor from Samsung or Sony. Other possible features include 120W fast charging and an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor.
The Xiaomi 12 is likely to arrive on the market running the upcoming MIUI 13 from day one - and the software is probably also going to be presented at the same event. Although surely it would make more sense for the MIUI 13 presentation to come a day later? While we're playing with numbers, that is.
