I'm curious as to which phone are you using right now or that you recommend? I'm trying to buy a new android phone to replace my S22 Ultra. I don't game much but I used to play clash of clans so I might only game with that game. I do take a lot of pictures so there's that. There's so many options that I'm seeing right now but I appreciate real life recommendations. I'm in California and use the T-Mobile network.

Johny, 07 Dec 2023Xiaomi 13 ultra or S23 ultra, in terms of Camera. I have se... moreTL:DR
Samsung = more processed (not a bad thing, just preference), more zoom, sharper

Xiaomi = less processed, softer, more consistent between lenses.

Which one to pick really depends what you are taking pictures of. Samsung S23 Ultra camera will be sharper typically, but has to use HDR processing to get more dynamic range. Shooting in the camera app's pro mode will minimize the processing a lot, and you can process the RAW files how you like. The RAW files will sometimes show a low resolution jpeg thumbnail on the camera app so make sure to open it in an app like Snapseed

At extremely long zoom ranges (400mm+) the Samsung will have more detail, just because the lens is physically longer, but the sensor is inferior to the Xiaomi, so you'll probably get better dynamic range, low light performance, etc. From the Xiaomi

The only sensor on the Samsung that's really good is the 200mp main one (under the 24mm lens), but I'm pretty sure you can't shoot more than 12mp in RAW, unfortnately. Using a third party camera app won't fix this limitation. Other than resolution, dynamic range and stuff is good on it.

Luckily, all the sensors on the Xiaomi are really good, actually it uses the same sensor (IMX858) for 3 of the 4 rear cameras so other than FOV they look pretty similar. I am not sure if this phone supports RAW capture at 50MP or if it does which lenses it does, if someone can check for me I might buy one.

I haven't tested chromatic abberation on these two but on the S21 Ultra it can be pretty noticable on the 230mm telephoto.

Selfie camera on Xiaomi 13 Ultra is pretty awful, whilst the samsung one is good, but samsung may try to smooth your face with processing so keep that in mind.

GSMArena takes the same photos for all the phones and I'd recommend comparing them to see what auto mode looks like.

There also is another phone, Sony Xperia 1 V, that has a decent camera but people have mixed opinions about that one. Seems to be more for video stuff since it has SD card slot, headphone jack (for external mic, or headphones) and shoots 4K HDR 120hz on all 3 rear cameras, also BT2020 4K screen. Maybe overpriced, maybe overheats.

Since I live in NA, Samsung and Apple phones are way way way more common than any other brand and thus I've had a lot more time to play with them, which may bias my answer, though I try to keep bias out of my suggestion

I've been using this phone for Gaming like Call Of Duty mobile at Max 120hz Refresh rate at Dynamic Resolution and also im using this phone for another heavy mobile Games and it works well there is no any issue on it. you just only need to Clean up the RAM, GPU, Clean Caches and Close all the other Running Apps in the Background, then Open Only One App you want to use with. in some case the phone might get warm but you need to assist it, its obviously there is no Air vent and Air Blower on it, so get near to the Aircon or Electric Fan so your mind also might get in Cold too.😅
and the Camera of this phone are also Great,
i used this phone on our Last year Christmas Party Beauty Pageant the Photos and Videos are So Great.
my Co-workers and Friends always asked me, can you Send me that.😅

Any ways.. anything has its Limits because there are some Features that the device don't have, and only you people or the owners can do the best to assist your device for good, and all the device are also need Care. so Please Handle them with Care. you are so Blessed to Have it.. be thankful..✌️😊

Same goes to DSLR lens, let say 50 mm F1.2, it still have opening that are sharpest (F5.6) and also have opening that are less sharp (below F3 and higher than F8). The more expensive lens DSLR will try to minimize this limitation by using lots of lens group, so you may still get sharper images from F1.6 to F10.

rici, 09 Jan 2024Hi I have a question. 13 ultra has great zoom cameras durin... moreIt's not possible to have a very sharp across the entire frame because the Xiaomi 13 Ultra's main, wide lens has a LOT of astigmatism which results in blurring at the edges of the frame. About 50 or 60 percent of the image is quite sharp, but the edges are significantly less sharp. That's just how it is with the vast majority of wide lenses. The Xiaomi 14 Pro's lens has much less astigmatism than 13 Ultra's so the edges are sharper, BUT since the sensor is much smaller, the end result is similar or worse than 13 Ultra's in sharpness, except in certain cases of high contrast with black or mostly black objects and white or mostly white background, in which case the 14 Pro may give a somewhat sharper image. But do note that with colors instead of black and white, the result of the 14 Pro's will most likely be worse than 13 Ultra's. In order to capture very sharp images with a 23 or 24mm equivalent lens, you need a truly high-end and usually very large and heavy lens, like some prime lenses available for full-frame and APS-C interchangeable lens cameras. An example is Sigma 24mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art. You can compare it to other lenses in the website "The Digital Picture" dot com. Compare it for example to the 24mm setting of the Nikon 24-120mm f/3.5-5.6G AF-S VR. That's kind of like the blurring you get with the 13 Ultra's lens. In order for Leica or Zeiss or Schneider etc. to create a very high end lens for the 1 inch sensor format which can fit well in a smartphone, a lot of resources (many millions of dollars) would be required in order to come up with an ingenious new lens design. What they currently have is very nice, but quite full of compromises.
