Xiaomi confirms 13 Ultra's camera specs, expect a big upgrade

Ro, 13 April 2023

Xiaomi was able to keep the 13 Ultra under wraps for the most part, with some modest leaks revealing some basic specs for the past couple of months. For instance, we knew that the device will have four cameras on its back this year and will retain the 1-inch 50MP Sony IMX989 sensor for the main shooter. And now thanks to Xiaomi itself we get to learn what the other three sensors will be.

In an official Weibo post, the company revealed that alongside the 50MP Sony IMX989 sensor that the 12S Ultra used, the 13 Ultra will feature three 50MP Sony IMX858 sensors. The poster also outlines some advanced noise-reduction features and better HDR capabilities.

We've already seen this sensor in action on the Honor Magic5 Pro paired with a .5x telephoto lens. The 13 Ultra, however, will use the IMX858 for its ultrawide camera (with PDAF, of course), the 3x telephoto and the 5x telephoto.

So, in short, the Xiaomi 13 Ultra will not only have better camera hardware but a more versatile one too. We can't wait to see what this combo can do in practice. And luckily, we won't have to wait much longer as the device will be announced on April 18.

I have the Oppo Find X6 Pro, which has the Sony IMX989 1" and two IMX890s, which are both 1/1.56. They make an awesome combination.

Interesting...it may be on the small side for the UWA, but it's good enough for the telephotos. As for all the new tech, it remains to be seen where in the pipeline it's applied, if it's too far down the pipeline then it'll have t...
