Xiaomi joins the Qi wireless charging consortium
Xiaomi has joined the Wireless Power Consortium, known for its Qi standard. That is the same standard that is supported by Apple, LG, Samsung (which also supports PMA) and others.
The company has not made an official announcement, but it showed up on the member list at the Consortium’s home page. One would think that the upcoming Xiaomi Mi 7 would be the first to include Qi wireless charging.
Wireless charging has been gaining momentum over the last few years and cafes, airports and even Ikea have joined in. The latest high-profile participant is Apple, which switched to glass backs this generation of iPhone to enable wireless charging. Qualcomm was claiming that it has tech that works on metal phones, but we’re yet to see it (that was back in 2015).
