I can connect a USB2.0 micro-USB pen just fine via OTG, with even shoddier memory (and speeds). Shouldn't that be the first thing to disable then?

It's called HAVING AN OPTION and CAUSAL RELATION. If you put a SD Card in and your performance goes down then it's not rocket science dude. It's your OPTION to use it that way or find a better way of doing things...

Will you still be interested if Mi5 is only coming with 3GB RAM ?
I think 3GB RAM will shorten its lifespan too soon.

jsl, 11 Feb 2016Card slots and SD cards at all mess up the hardware, brings... moreContratry to the SDCard supporter, sdcard can indeed cause performance problem in smartphone (lagging). This is true esp. with budget phones where the interface is often based on the slow USB 2.0 connection. Couple it with the fact that different sdcard has different performance specs, non-technical users will probably make it worse by choosing a cheap sdcard with slow reading/writing speed. Generally cheap sdcard only has fast sequential read/write speed , but very poor performer at writing small files. There are several high performance sdcard, but then the price itself is not cheap, and might be as expensive as buying higher storage capacity built-in directly by phone manufacturer,....and to make it even more complicated, such high-performance sdcard can be easily crippled by the slow USB 2.0 connection, unless the sdcard slot has UFS 2.0 connecton which is only found in a few high-end (aka expensive) phone.
Based on this fact, cheap/budget phones are actually the one critical to the use of sdcard because they probably only has the slow USB 2.0 connection, and they will be more likely to suffer lagging than the flagship model (which ideally use UFS 2.0 connection nowadays). I think the only reason why phone manufacturer still do not like to provide sdcard slot with UFS 2.0 in the flagship model is because there will be too much compromise to the phone design itself because of the existence of sdcard slot, and the variety of sdcard performance which can easily cripple the flagship model from performing optimally.

Anonymous, 11 Feb 2016will be a good phone if it had a card slot...Card slots and SD cards at all mess up the hardware, brings up hdd errors and are slower than an ssd internal storage. I think they are useless and more harmful than useful! Its always better to have just one storage than teaching your device why it has two storages and what to do with every single one... Hope for 128GB version for guys like you, I think, that 64 is more than enough.

AnonD-499251, 10 Feb 2016No marshmallow yet !It will be Android 6. The information isn't updated. Also it will include Quick Charge 3.0 and Gorilla Glass 4 front and probably back if its glass panel. Also it will be a quad core processor (Kryo cores instead of A53 and A57) of new generation with much lower power consumption than any octa core and most of the rest quad core processors with better performance than any other octa core. It will support B1, B3, B7, B28, B38, B40 and probably other LTE bands. Features also 600 Mbps dual band WiFi. Screen resolution is selected to be 1080p for a maximal battery life but after all on 5-6 inches screen your eyes are unable to see any difference between 1080p, 1440p and 2160p so no need to complain. The battery, even if it gotta be 3000 MAh, will be good enough because of its quad core processor and 1080p screen (the biggest consumers after all are the processor and the screen!).

Anything over $xxx is overpriced.. Anything under $xxx is too low price... People.. Go ahead.. Buy the hardware piece by piece.. Write the software.. Fix the bugs.. Name your brand and sell your work for penny's if you evaluate it like that. Every company has its production cost evaluated on base of parts, salary of the workers and some other things that form the overall. DO NOT underestimate that or if you do go and buy that cheap an Apple, Samsung, HTC, Sony device with same hardware...

There are a lot of phone manufacturers right now, so buying a 700 dollar phone from samsung, htc, sony, apple etc is a big mistake. Price should be lower becuse it is not monopolize by one company. If they cost s lot on production and rnd its not your problem anymore. But just look around you there are a lot of good phones with very low price.

All I'm saying is the Xiaomi official specs (and retail box) don't mention it, therefore they have no obligation to put it in the product you buy.

Anonym, 09 Feb 2016Ok, read the first paragraph: http://www.gsmarena.com/xiao... moreAre you saying that the writer has more knowledge than Xiaomi & the Gorilla Glass Team who are working behind the technology ? The article has explained that Mi4 is using different glass protection called Corning Concore, which is also produced by the same company as Gorilla Glass 3 & 4. Did you even bother reading the article ?

And today I've got à reply from corning team :
The two products serve different applications. Gorilla Glass is intended for demanding designs and provides high damage resistance through TRADITIONAL discrete-cover glass manufacturing. Concore Glass is designed for a DIFFERENT touch screen technology and manufacturing process, used by some device manufacturers. Concore Glass delivers outstanding damage resistance compared to soda-lime glass, which has been traditionally used for this touch technology. Furthermore, it offers similar scratch resistance as Gorilla Glass.

                                      Thanks,
                                      The Gorilla Glass Team

                                      http://www.91mobiles.com/blog/xiaomi-mi4-faqs.html
Is the Xiaomi Mi 4’s screen covered with a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass?
The short answer is, no. The long answer however, explains why. The Mi 4 uses OGS technology for its display, and Gorilla Glass doesn’t play well with it. Therefore, Xiaomi has layered the Mi 4’s screen with Corning Concore, another scratch-resistant solution from the same brand that makes Gorilla Glass.

                                      https://www.quora.com/Which-is-tougher-among-Corning-Gorilla-Glass-3-or-Concore-glass
Concore Glass is an OGS Laminated Display from Corning, the manufacturer of Gorilla Glass. Concore Glass is as hard, resistant to scratches & damage as with Gorilla Glass. Concore Glass is also known as Fit Glass because of the laminated display technology used in which Protection Glass and Touch device is integrated into one unit.
They are basically the same in terms of hardness and resistance to scratches. But they are used in different applications. Concore glass is part of a display and Gorilla class is used to protect a display from damage. CONCORE GLASS COMBINES DISPLAY & PROTECTION GLASS INTO ONE. This reduces the thickness of the display.
