Just bought this phone.
PROS:
- Great 5,8" AMOLED display (great contrast, great black), sharp and vivid as better Samsung's displays, eye-friendly
- Newest, fast and future ready SD710 chipset (QC 4.0, enhanced audio & photography, battery friendly etc.)
- Well built, nice design, also light and very comfortable using one hand
- Good battery life
- Nice features as IR universal blaster, AOD, HDR 10, usb type C, swipe gestures (no buttons), fast charge 3.0/4.0, Android 8.1 + Treble
- Cheap
CONS:
- Lousy MIUI ROM (no official global yet!), full of chinese bloatware tied with locked BL
- Not bad but still not good camera, could and should be much better, despite low price! Or software algorhytms are bad. Too much noise and bluriness. AI does improve some but not enough.
- Not enough options for display color correction.
- Stupid notch
- One-color LED notification (in 2018, really Xiaomi??)
- Idiotic USB audio adapter.
Verdict: If XIAOMI engineers improve camera trough software (eis, noise), then this phone could be the best buy of 2018! It is very well balanced phone and pretty cheap (around 270 euro now).

The Mi 8 SE has scored 174k in antutu while the Galaxy A8 (2018) scores 116k which is the same price as the Mi 8 SE. Same goes with the A2 and Galaxy J8 which are both same price but with 77k difference in antutu score in favor to the A2. Huge difference; granted the Xiaomi A2 runs Android One but the point still stands.

And are there bett... moreReason why Xiaomi need more powerful chips is because there MiUi is a heavy UI, while Samsung Grace UX is much more efficient UI, i have been using 1 Samsung & 1 Xiaomi for sometime, i found Samsung is way better than Xiaomi even if the chips is lower range, not forgetting light year advance display & camera.

Gsmarena review says MIUI has a good update history but some other people say updates are late and bugs take a while to get fixed. Also how does it manage RAM and internal storage?

New Qualcomm SD 710 has enhanced EIS and Quick Charge 4.0 ability, so we have to wait until someone in Xiaomi see it and implement it in Mi 8 SE .

the 2nd camera only for DEPTH SENSOR, it doesnt even take picture to reduce noise
it isnt the case for other model like Mi A2
but for model with useless 2nd camera, why not just add OIS

When taking video Sony steady shot technology is still better and stable than OIS. Conclusion dual camera better than OIS. OIS make image smudge and painting like, lost the details and texture.

they are many occasion involving movement when ppl taking photo, so ois is definitely helps here.
