which to buy? mi 8 (last year model ) or this mi 9 se? priority is on camera and battery....price is same....mi 8 has OIS and better chipset....what about other aspects....which one to buy? please help me

I was taking pictures of my friends trying not to crash my bike so I was just tapping shutter button when cam started to get extremely laggy, I even got pink artifacts in the life-view image. Photos were fine though and camera works perfectly now.

I use Filmic Pro. It costs 13€ but is a far better camera app for filming and worth it's price. And you can focus while filming without having lags!

Because i experiencing some like in camera when u are doing video recording. Everytime u tried to tap and change the focus. The video becomes laggy/low fps/stuttering.

The camera is buggy. When you take a video recording and then change it focus, while the circle focus indicator is still in the screen, the recording becomes laggy or low fps. But when the circle focus indicator is not showing up, everything becomes normal. Many users already experiencing this as we have a group in facebook for mi 9 se users. We will report this in feedback to fixed the issue.

First, it's not a flagship. And for this price, 300$ there is no better phone you can get.
The battery life was great at the beginning, but after one month, it's only half as good, because it somehow uses 2.5 GB Ram in Standby. Use Darkmode and black wallpapers for more battery life as it's an OLED Display.
Also, it charges 20% in 10 minutes.
The camera is bugged, if you focus while filming, it is really stuttery and basically unusable. To prevent that, I use Filmic Pro. It costs 15$ but it is an awesome app anyway and totally worth it's price.
The other things you mention, I don't have a problem with.
I do really recommend this phone.

I have been using this phone for about 2 months.
Pros :
Compact : size and weight is good for one hand operations
Cons:
Battery can not lasts for one day even I never play games. only social media user
Earpiece in the upper left to the notch is awful. I often can not hear the person and another person often complaints that cannot hear me.
Microphone is not also good. Even when I use headphones (wired or bluetooth) I have hearing problems.
Camera is a little bit laggy.
Camera bump is also too high.
Sometimes when using whatsapp video calls phone heats.
For these problems I gave back my 9 se 6/128 gb changed it to 6/64 . Thought that it may be one phone defect but my second 9 se also has same problems. I have updated to the latest version of MIUI nothing changed. I think build quality especially earpiece microphone and voice recorder is really bad for a flagship.
Not Recommended.

I have this phone for over a month now. no complaints about everything aside from the speaker. When in maximum volume, sometimes it produce crackling sound and it bothers me.
