Loving the phone so far but I have an issue with 4G reception not being as strong at home compared to my previous phone (iPhone 6s). Could it be that I have a defunct unit or is this normal?

Hope Xiaomi delivers timely updates to Android to their Oreo devices, since Oreo supports PROJECT TREBLE. All that glitters are not Gold. But the truth is that Real Gold also glitters. I did some quick reading on Chinese forums, and they mention the dual camera problem. My understanding is qualcomm originated this technology on the SD821 chipset and Oreo update requires qualcomm drivers, so I'm not sure you can pin the entire delay on Xiaomi. They mention the ETA on Oreo update is November for China ROM. I don't own the device so I won't profess to know much about it, but this information might be useful to you.
I haven't experienced this big.LITTLE bug. The performance cores on my devices work fine under heavy load. No battery discharge or overheating either, very happy with the SOTs in fact. Is this bug limited to the 5s Plus?

Actually I have a Mi5s Plus which also "has an update problem due to hardware specific to the device afaik".
Do you know what is the hardware problem that the Xiaomi developers can't solve in this case? The dual camera driver. Don't laugh, that's the official Xiaomi reason for not updating,so please tell me how updating(and spending time on a obsolete device) the Mi2 isn't just marketing?
About what's usntable in the latest stable firmware:a "little" bug there,a "little" battery fast discharge and overheating issue,a "little" problem with the big.LITTLE management (the high power cores are virtually always sleeping even when they are clearly needed).
Also please don't put words into my mouth,I never said or implied that I hate Xiaomi or MIUI(It's a phone, normal people don't hate phones or phone brands).
I just said that at the moment Xiaomi is a snail when it comes to OS upgrades (if you buy Xiaomi make sure it has the latest Android version because future upgrades are not guaranteed and usually come very late) and that there are usually problems with those updates.
BTW.What I buy with my money is exclusively my business.

mdtrpa, 09 Aug 2018I remember my experience with Huawei Mate 7, I did update t... moreApple is the only true luxury brand in the smartphone space. From a shareholder's perspective, AAPL is close to the perfect investment. Most profitable company in the world with the largest cash pile ever. While initially slow to act, Cook has really ramped up returning cash to shareholders via dividends and humongous buybacks. The trillion dollar valuation and lack of innovation in recent years are worrying though.
Would love to invest in Huawei too. From a business perspective it's the closest thing to Apple in China, healthy margins and cash rich. The innovation culture is very strong, reminiscent of Apple under Jobs.
Ren has stated repeatedly Huawei will never go public, but Xiaomi's Lei said the same thing a few years ago. We'll see.

On China's own XDA forum, QeeTo (7to.cn), there are a ton of other brands' users requesting developers to port MIUI or Flyme for their phones, very few requests to port EMUI.
If you hate MIUI, get rid of it and use a custom ROM. Don't buy the brand again. Simple as that.

Anonymous, 10 Aug 2018Mi2 updated...That's just for marketing.
How about the Mi5... moreIt's not "just marketing" to a real user like me. Most Android OEMs support their flagships for about 2 years, and less for budget/midrange devices.
Do you actually own both the Mi5s and 5s plus?

Anonymous, 10 Aug 2018You do realize that you are criticizing Huawei firmware on ... moreSnail? Looks like all you've used is the Mi5s, which has an update problem due to hardware specific to the device afaik
MIUI and Flyme are widely recognized as the best OEM skins by Chinese users who've used them on various devices for many years. MIUI China ROMs have weekly developer ROM updates, beta testers get daily updates.
Huawei was notorious for abandoning updates early on many non-flagship phones in 3 previous generations. They've improved a lot in the past year, but one good move does NOT make a track record.
I had 3 devices - Redmi Note 5, Redmi 5 Plus and Mi Max - running Nougat. In months of use, there's been only one freeze-up. You're gonna have to be more specific to what you mean by 'unstable'.
