Thd signal however does cut at times and i have to reboot to get it working. Other than that i love it. I now plan to buy a 128gb version if it comes out here in sa

Hi. I have just bought the mi max from ali express and got it delivered to pakistan and it came with the global rom with miui 7 version. The seller says it supports OTA upgrade and it also came with playstore installed. However when i use the updater to check for updates to get it upgraded to miui 8, it always shows no update to insall. Any one have same issue? Or should i wait for sotime to get it upgraded OTA?

I use an iPhone as my main phone, and I was shopping around for an android device to miracast onto my LG TV without using an Apple TV or a Chromecast. I considered getting a cheap tablet in Singapore like the Asus Zen 8 or the Acer Predator 8 (S$299 or USD210) but the specs didn't quite match up, then I thought of getting a android phone for around the same price and there were many to choose from Samsung J7, Huawei etc. Then I chanced upon this Mi Max. To me, it was perfect. A Singapore set was S$320 or USD230 with 1 year warranty or if you are feeling adventurous you can get an export set for just S$238 or USD 170 with 2 weeks warranty. The screen size is a little big for my daily use with me putting my phone in my pocket but that can be subjective as I see many people just carrying their phones in their hands anyway. Those people who use an iPhone 7plus should be comfortable using a phone of this size. The colours on the screen are great. Miracast is seamless. Surfing the net on the phone and reading from the phone is great. It's big enough to be used for reading or watching movies on the go and yet small enough to just throw in your hand carry baggage or knapsack. All in I'd say this has been a great choice for me.
One word of caution though. If you buy the export set, it doesn't come with google apps pre-installed but I read somewhere that you can just download it easily, and a friend of mine said that the Play store works fine on wifi but not on LTE when it doesn't come pre-installed. Not a major deal breaker.
