Tsubassai, 26 Dec 2017Good day. I am inquiring about the statements you made abov... moreThe reason for company to put S625 is to save money - its cheper processor. They have to put something new to justify calling it a new model. Then they market it as more modern cpu that saves energy - yes its basically only advantage of S625, and they also put bigger battery to mask that difference in battery endurance is negligable - even with 10% bigger battery phone managed to get just 15% longer battery life. Most energy is used by screen on phone this size anyway, and battery life was already great on Max. Bigger battery on Max 2 made the phone even more clunky and heavy which is last thing this phone needed. Screen is the same. Speaker on Max is very good, dont know how is it on Max 2. Camera on Max is very good, dont know if its better on Max 2. So basically Max 2 seems like a downgrade just to save little money to manufacturer. Bad tactics.

The main difference is the SoC which is 33% slower (both CPU and GPU) on Max 2 vs Max all do S625 is 14nm FinFET and Mi Max 2 has a bigger battery the SoT isn't all that much better, around 15%. Aesthetically & regarding performance the first generation is better.

                                  M. Mawei, 27 Jan 2018Comparison of Xiaomi Mi Max Prime vs Mi Max 2 http://en.... moreFrom day to day usage, performance differences would be negligible between the 2.
However, hardware wise, Mi Max 2 build quality (all aluminum back), screen(brighter, greater sunlight visibility), speaker (stereo, much louder) , camera (a bit better in low light), battery life (much longer with larger battery capacity, and also 14nm power saving SD625 processor, despite the lower performance A53 core) all are better than Mi Max Prime. Mi Max 2 also comes with USB type-C, fast charging adapter is included right out of the box, more network band support, can be used at more country internationally.
It is like this, for existing Mi Max/Prime user, there is no need for an upgrade. Original Mi Max still served well after MIUI 9 updates (feel much faster than before).
But for new user, Mi Max 2 would be much more recommended, as it is much better equipped.

Comparison of Xiaomi Mi Max Prime vs Mi Max 2

                                    http://en.miui.com/thread-635627-1-1.html

[Discussion] Mi Max Prime vs Mi Max 2 - which one is better?

We read a lot about the Mi Max 2 and the Mods talk about thing's like the X9 LTE Modem in the Snapdragon 625, which mean nothing for us. So let's start with the SoC, which is for the most the main problem:

                                    Snapdragon 652: Quad 1.8GHz ARM Cortex A72 + Quad 1.4GHz Cortex A53 CPU
Snapdragon 625: Octa Cortex A53 up to 2.0GHz

Snapdragon 652: Adreno 510 GPU (Mi Max Prime @600MHz)
                                    Snapdragon 625: Adreno 506 GPU (Mi Max 2 @650MHz)

Snapdragon 652: Dual channel LPDDR3 (up to 933MHz)
                                    Snapdragon 625: Single LPDDR3 (up to 933MHz)

                                    Snapdragon 652: Qualcomm® Quick Charge 3.0
                                    Snapdragon 625: Qualcomm® Quick Charge 3.0

Snapdragon 652: up to Quad HD 2560x1600
Snapdragon 625: up to Full HD 1080p

                                    Snapdragon 652: Geekbench 1511/2907
                                    Snapdragon 625: Geekbench 825/3110

Snapdragon 652: Unreal Benchmark High Performance 59.8 fps
Snapdragon 625: Unreal Benchmark High Performance 59.8 fps

Snapdragon 652: Unreal Benchmark Ultra High Quality 55.5 fps
Snapdragon 625: Unreal Benchmark Ultra High Quality 46.5 fps

Snapdragon 652: RAM 8942,22 MB/s (tested on Mi Max)
Snapdragon 625: RAM 6486,43 MB/s (tested on Redmi 4 Prime)

Snapdragon 652: AnTuTu 81065 (Mi Max with 650)
                                    Snapdragon 625: AnTuTu 61114 (Redmi 4x)

So, the Snapdragon 652 is stronger but some things like support QHD Display mean nothing for us, like the X9 LTE Modem in the 625. The 14nm of the 625 mean better battery life but with huge battery on both, this also mean nothing for the most of us. The real big problem is the LPDDR3, this time even slower with single, no A72 and the GPU support newer API but on real benchmark the 625 lose against the 652, when we talk about GPU.
Let's talk about the hardware, like the camera, sensors, battery and more:

My MiMax Prime has no problem at all. After upgraded and running the latest version of Android 7 (Nougat) it feels faster than before. All features running well and smooth. I'm happy with this device. Thanks Xiaomi.
