Did you know, samsung foldable phone can go 7 inch and above than only 6.9 inches? Samsung foldable may have a much higher chipset and plus waterproof even when is too big fold into become normal size and the price was intensely expensive. See, even honor note 10 did not have waterproof yet.

Market reality is a significant overlap of buyers between Mi Max and Mi Pad series, especially in China. Xiaomi knows this and that's why they're not offering a Snap 710 version. It will cannibalize Mi Pad sales.

My Mi Max replaced an aging iPad which was too heavy. I had 5 working smartphones so it was bought as a tablet all along.

It's called a phablet for a reason. It can be used as a phone or a tablet, or both. It's up to each user how he/she prefers to use the device. This "always a smartphone first then a tablet" concept is your opinion.

Dan, 28 Jul 2018You are assuming users have only one phone and no tablets. ... moreI'm not assuming anything. They simply don't belong to the same category of devices and no amount of anegdotical argument you bring is going to change this simple fact. Users can have smartphones and tablets, they just rarely buy one instead of another. As long as they understand the basic differences and how they relate to user's individual needs (which, I think, is the case with all that "smartphone vs tablet" questions).
If you bought Mi Max or Mi Max 2 to use PRIMARILY as a tablet, then guess what, you bought it to use as a smartphone, not a tablet. Smartphones in general are used as tablets for most of the time, but that doesn't make them tablets obviously. You buy smartphones for the mere ability to make calls (conveniently, with one hand, while outdoors etc.). It's only one feature on the long list of things smartphone can do, but it's a core one. One that determines device's entire design, all that huge compromises you have to suffer just to retain the ability to use it as a regular phone. If you decided you don't need that then you always go for a tablet. Why? Because tablets are MUCH better at being tablets than smartphones are, so why suffer smaller screen, longer aspect ratio etc. But hey, tablets really suck at being phones, even if they happen to offer the functionality.

I know a few people IRL who bought Mi Max or Max2 to use primarily as a tablet, including myself. Chinese forums have numerous discussion of "Mi Max 3 or Mi Pad 4?". Their prices and specs are pretty close. Max 3 is significantly lighter and that's an important consideration in real life usage.

So all your complains about how they used to be ambitious and innovative back in the day and now they are just shadow of their former glory would've gone away if they had put SD 660 into MM3? Dude, it's like 120K vs 140/145K in Antutu 7. It's even the same architecture. I understand why people wanted SD 710 with its efficient 10nm process, but SD 636 vs SD 660 is hardly a game changer.

Some tablet users may consider dropping their phone & tablet in favor of a single device, but that's it. The only competition for MM3 in 2018 is Honor Note 10, and it's going to be twice as expensive. That is how small that market is.
