They are 'refurbishing' old models (very small design changes on the latest released models=cutting back costs), not upgrading previous generation models (cutting back costs), hardware downgrade in the mi note 3(cutting back costs).

But SD660 had such a beast processor and it's possible that SD660 was slightly more powerful than SD820. That's why most other brands used SD660 for their upper mid-range instead of SD820.

what about the secondary cam , I mean 16mpx with a huge 2.0 micron pixel size, that is way better than the primary !
we havent seen huge sensors from a while I think that sensor should be about 1/2 inch sensor, and not imx from sony?

You can check their product brief on Qualcomm website that Adreno 512 slightly better than Adreno 530.

No 3.5mm jack and still dinky 3500mAh battery (note 4100 mAh). Would have loved SD660, but no thanks.

SD660 lag behind with a Adreno 512 graphic chip, which is only half power of SD820/821's Adreno 530 graphic chip, and 3 times inferior than SD835's Adreno 540.
You may argue, Adreno 512 is already considered very powerful, since 1080p screen is used, but Adreno 530 are significantly better.

For multitasking, SD835 have more efficiency on management and battery life than SD660 since SD835 supports LPDDR4X memory type while SD660 only supports LPDDR4.
