Xiaomi Mix Flip review
Displays
The real showstopper on the Xiaomi Mix Flip is its foldable 6.86-inch LTPO OLED panel. It has a resolution of 1,224 x 2,912 pixels, which makes for 460ppi density and a 22:9 aspect ratio.
The external display uses a 4.01-inch OLED panel of 1,392 x 1,208 resolution or 460ppi. It is protected by Xiaomi's Dragon Crystal (Longjin) glass.
The foldable large screen supports 10-bit color depth, dynamic 120Hz refresh rate, up to 240Hz touch sampling, HDR10 and Dolby Vision. It can offer up to 3,000 nits of peak brightness.
The external screen should offer 12-bit color depth, 120Hz refresh rate, 120Hz touch sampling, HDR10 and Dolby Vision certification and up to 3,000 nits of peak brightness.
Obviously both panels have some perforations - the internal one has a tiny punch hole for the small selfie camera, while the external one has two large round holes for the two main camera rings.
Xiaomi's display options offer Sunlight Mode toggle - if enabled it not only increases the maximum automatic brightness, but the maximum manual one, too.
The foldable screen offers 786nits of maximum manual and 1,314 nits of maximum automatic brightness with the Sunlight Mode ON or when left on Automatic Brightness. Without the Sunlight Mode, the maximum manual and auto brightness is 573 nits.
The external screen offers similar specs - 745 nits of manual and 1,355 nits of auto brightness with Sunlight/Auto modes, or 540 nits without boost.
The minimum brightness at point white for both screens was just 1.9 nit.
Refresh rate
Xiaomi's display options offer modes - Automatic and Custom (60Hz or 120Hz).
Automatic and Custom 120Hz are identical. They offer a truly dynamic refresh rate handling that goes up to 120Hz when needed, 1Hz for static content and everything possible in-between depending on the screen's refresh rate. Video streaming uses 24Hz, 30Hz, 60Hz depending on the frame rate.
The 60Hz Custom options acts as a ceiling - it also uses a dynamic refresh rate switching between 1Hz and 60Hz depending on the content.
HDR and Streaming
The large foldable screen of the Xiaomi Mix Flip is HDR10, HDR10+ and Dolby Vision certified and it is recognized as such across all popular streaming platforms, Netflix included.
Battery life
The Xiaomi Mix Flip has one of the largest batteries to power a Flip so far - a 4,780mAh cell. But the phone also uses the most powerful and power-hungry chip, so we were not sure what to expect.
Well, the Mix Flip clocked 11:58h Active Use score, which is less than the year-old Find N3 Flip and a match to the Razr 50 Ultra. The 21:20h of call time result is a bit low, but the Mix Flip managed to save face with the best Web performance among competitors. The video streaming and gaming times are solid, too.
Our new Active Use Score is an estimate of how long the battery will last if you use the device with a mix of all four test activities. You can adjust the calculation based on your usage pattern using the sliders below. You can read about our current battery life testing procedure here. For a comprehensive list of all tested devices so far, head this way.
Charging speed
The Xiaomi Mix Flip supports 67W Mi Fast charging and it ships with the 67W power adapter and a compatible USB-A-to-C cable.
The results from our charging test are great. The supplied power adapter recharged 41% of the depleted battery in the first 15 minutes. We clocked 68% after another 15 mins. A full charge took exactly 52 minutes.
You can opt for a few battery protection options, such as Optimized Charging based on behavior and Limited charging with a ceiling of 80%.
Speakers
The Xiaomi Mix Flip offers stereo speakers with one speaker placed on each shorter side. The earpiece is obviously one of the speakers, but its outlet points more upwards than front-facing.
While the earpiece offers lower volume and almost no bass when compared to the bottom speaker, the balance is still quite good.
The speakers of the Mix Flip scored a Good mark on our loudness test. We would also rate the audio quality as Very Good - there is enough bass, the vocals are great, and the high-frequency range is good, though we have heard richer.
Use the Playback controls to listen to the phone sample recordings (best use headphones). We measure the average loudness of the speakers in LUFS. A lower absolute value means a louder sound. A look at the frequency response chart will tell you how far off the ideal "0db" flat line is the reproduction of the bass, treble, and mid frequencies. You can add more phones to compare how they differ. The scores and ratings are not comparable with our older loudspeaker test. Learn more about how we test here.

You do know they make smaller sized phones right If your job doesn't let you carry a 6.5" slab because (presumably) you don't have safe enough pockets for them, a delicate foldable thing with plastic screen isn't going to cut it...

It's not straightforward as 8s Gen3 and 8 Gen 3 utilize the same Cortex-X4, Cortex-A720, and Cortex-A520 CPU. The only difference is the core arrangement. 8s Gen 3 has more A520 efficiency cores than 8 Gen 3. By right, the 8s Gen 3 should have b...
