Xiaomi Mix Flip review
A total of three cameras, but one is unnecessary
The Xiaomi Mix Flip has two 50MP cameras on its back for wide-angle and zoomed photos, as well as for selfies thanks to the outer screen. There is also an internal 32MP camera for selfies purposes.
- Wide (main): 50MP OmniVision OVX8000 a.k.a Light Hunter 800 (likely same as OV50E, 1/1.55", 1.0µm - 2.0µm) f/1.7, 23mm (wide), dual pixel PDAF, OIS; 4320p@24fps, 2160p@60fps
- Telephoto: 50 MP OmniVision OV60A (60MP ), f/2.0, 1/2.61", 0.61µm, 47mm (telephoto), PDAF (9cm - ∞), OIS, 2x optical zoom; 2160p@60fps
- Front camera: 32MP OmniVision OV32B, f/2.0, 1/3.14", 0.7µm (wide); 2160p@30/60fps
The sensor used for the main camera has proven itself in other devices too as we've seen it in Poco F6 Pro and the Xiaomi 14 Civi.
The telephoto camera actually uses a 60MP camera sensor even if it is advertised as a 50MP. The output is still 12.5MP, as the primary one so we are guessing Xiaomi is cropping the sensor in this implementation. It also features a floating lens, and you can use it for some closeup focusing.
As usual for Leica-branded cameras, here you can opt for the default Leica Vivid processing, or the Leica Authentic one.
Daylight photo quality
The primary camera on the Mix Flip saves top-notch photos during the day. The ones we took have it all - excellent detail rendition, high contrast, wide dynamic range, lively and accurate colors, consistently solid performance both outdoors and indoors.
Some of the camera samples below have been shot in Beijing where we attended the Mix Flip launch event.
There is a reason Leica Authentic mode is not default - it introduces vignetting that is not everyone's cup of tea, even higher contrast and slightly muted colors. Greenery undoubtedly looks great in this color mode.
Moving on to the telephoto camera. The photos we took look excellent - very good level of detail and most of all, natural-looking. The dynamic range is wide and colors are likable.
An interesting point to note is that the large sensor on the zoom camera means a shallow depth of field, which can easily be seen even in regular cityscape photos - objects which are closer/further away from the center of the image easily appear out of focus. And the rendition of these out of focus areas is not the best, somewhat lacking in contrast. However, it adds to an overall nice perspective rendition which we like.
The 4x hybrid zoom offers okay photos - they are soft but they do appear sharp enough if you don't inspect them from up close. At least the wide dynamic range is wide and we get consistent color reproduction.
Thanks to the floating lens, you can use the zoom camera for closeups, too. And the default 2x ones are lovely - sharp and detailed, colorful and excellent looking bokeh.
The 4x zoomed ones are less detailed, but they don't strike us as soft as the regular non-closeup 4x zoom shots. They look perfectly fine even if you magnify them further.
We expected the internal 32MP selfie camera to take 8MP images as it's a Quad Bayer sensor, but instead selfies come out upscaled to 32MP. Naturally, those are soft and you can tell they have been upscaled, but they do offer great contrast, good dynamic range and the subject is always well-exposed.
But who needs this selfie camera anyway when you can use the main cameras to capture your mug. You can either snap square photos or opt for whatever aspect you would like.
The selfies we took with the primary camera are great - the resolved detail is incredibly high, there is no noise, the bokeh is natural and you don't even need portrait mode, the colors are lively, and the dynamic range is nicely wide.
You can shoot selfies with the telephoto camera, too, but you run the risk of making any skin imperfections more prominent this way. Still, from image quality point of view, they are quite good.
The portrait mode offers a lot of options, zoom modes, filters. All photos are solid with proficiently tweaked background blur and advanced subject separation. The 23mm and 35mm photos are taken by the main camera, while the rest - on the telephoto.
Portraits: 23mm • 35mm • 50mm • 75mm

Low-light photo quality
There is a Night Mode on the Xiaomi Mix Flip main camera, which can also trigger automatically. In our experience, this happened on around 30% of our low light photos.
The primary camera captures great nighttime photos - the detail is plenty, the photos are well-exposed, with wide dynamic range, great colors and not over the top saturation, and low noise, if any.
Most of the same applies to the telephoto camera, though the darker it becomes, the softer the photos due to the harsher noise reduction. Still, these are some solid photos.
Shooting in 4x zoom at night is almost impossible - most of the photos turned out blurry and unusable. The ones we managed to salvage look like simple digital zoom.
Video quality
All three cameras on the Xiaomi Mix Flip offer up to 4K60 video capturing, while the primary one can also do 8K24. Audio is always stereo with about 320Kbps bitrate.
Electronic stabilization is always working across all video modes, resolutions and frame rates.
HDR/Dolby Vision recording is available, too.
You can check out the playlist below, which includes multiple video samples.
The Xiaomi Mix Flip turned out to be an excellent camcorder. Its primary and telephoto cameras shoot flagship-grade daylight videos with superb detail and balanced sharpness and overall - a very natural look. The videos offer a wide dynamic range, accurate colors and zero noise.
The selfie videos, be it shot on the internal or the main camera, are of similarly solid quality with well-exposed subject, good dynamic range and offer a lot of fine detail.
The low-light videos are good - there is enough resolved detail, the noise is tolerable, and the colors are nicely saturated. The dynamic range is average, but aright for the purpose of these videos.
All 4x zoomed videos are digitally zoomed over the 2x ones. Sames goes for the 8K videos from the main camera - they look like upscaled from the 4K footage, just not cropped.
Electronic stabilization does an excellent job across all cameras.

You do know they make smaller sized phones right If your job doesn't let you carry a 6.5" slab because (presumably) you don't have safe enough pockets for them, a delicate foldable thing with plastic screen isn't going to cut it...

It's not straightforward as 8s Gen3 and 8 Gen 3 utilize the same Cortex-X4, Cortex-A720, and Cortex-A520 CPU. The only difference is the core arrangement. 8s Gen 3 has more A520 efficiency cores than 8 Gen 3. By right, the 8s Gen 3 should have b...
