Xiaomi Pad 6S Pro 12.4 review
HyperOS with Android 14 core
The Xiaomi Pad 6S Pro runs on HyperOS 1.0.1 with Android 14 core. The new OS has made its way around many of Xiaomi's older and more recent devices.
Visually, the system isn't much different from MIUI, except maybe the flatter design with more rounded edges. Also, you can't go back to the classic notification shade style, so you are stuck with the Control Centre, whether you like it or not. Still, the system feels as fluent and snappy as ever.
You can expect at least 3 major software updates and 4 years of security patches, according to Xiaomi.
The new HyperOS introduces many under-the-hood optimizations, resulting in lower latency and faster switching between tasks.
The interface has been modernized with new color palettes, wallpapers, fonts, subtle curves around UI elements, and more.
HyperOS offers deeper integration with connected devices to your home network and devices signed into your personal Xiaomi account. This isn't new for MIUI users, of course, but HyperOS offers a tad deeper integration with other Mi Share-capable devices.
You can now multitask and cast your screen to other devices (tablets and PCs), not just send files. It's not a complete desktop-like experience, though. Samsung still has the upper hand in this regard.
The task manager has been optimized for the big screen, and it shows a lot of app cards at once. A tap and hold on a card reveals options for Split Screen and Floating Window.
You can also have up to two floating windows at once. Oh, and those two can be active over two apps that are working in split screen, which means the Pad 6S Pro supports up to 4 apps in multi-tasking mode on one screen.
There is a dedicated Features for Tablets menu in settings. Here you can learn some neat multi-tasking gestures for the floating windows and split screen. Detect Presence and Wake the screen when you are near the tablet are neat option to help you speed up the unlocking process. Conference Tools is the final option, which is a limited sidebar available when watching videos.
'Stylus and keyboard' menu is also available - you can adjust some settings from here if you've bought one or more of these optional accessories. There are quite a few options for the keyboard, including backlighting, shortcuts, mouse cursor design and more. The Focus Pen is quite useful for notes and drawings on the go, as well as custom screenshots.
Performance and benchmarks
The Xiaomi Pad 6S Pro is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset by Qualcomm, one of the best platforms on the market. It contains an octa-core processor with 1x3.2 GHz Cortex-X3 & 2x2.8 GHz Cortex-A715 & 2x2.8 GHz Cortex-A710 & 3x2.0 GHz Cortex-A510. The GPU is Adreno 740.
The Pad 6S supports LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.0 storage. We have the version with 256GB and 8GB RAM, though you can opt for 256/12, 512/12 and even 1TB/16GB options.
The Tab S6 Pro scored some excellent numbers across all tests, so we can't ask for more as far as raw performance is concerned.
The stability is quite important, and it turned out impressive. The tablet scored 86% of CPU and 92% of GPU stability. It never got uncomfortably hot around its chipset, though it can get quite warm at this specific spot on the back.
All in all, the Xiaomi Pad 6S Pro offers flagship-grade performance and excellent stability.
