Gino76ph, 21 Aug 2022Many Thanks for your reply. Based on every videos i'... moreYes. Mostly point on. Minor corrections -
1. Focus hunting is noticeable in 4k capture but not with FHD 60/30 fps, so seems more of software issue (which can be fixed via some future update)
2. Default camera tries to boost colors (& most people like it) but yes, not as natural as Iphone (if you prefer that way). The default photos algo will try to make photos more beautiful (& can't exactly turn it off). But I believe, except Samsung & Iphone, most manufactures do it. Even Samsung offers to do it (but it is optional).
3. Nothing phone has run into a bunch hardware issues & you should check them out. Screen is most important component since you will use it more than any other stuff (speakers, camera, bluetooth etc). F4 has better screen in its competition range.
4. Yes, more frequent security updates would have been good but you can't always get best of everything so you need to work with Better.
Poco has better screen, most 5G bands supported, Good battery backup, faster charging, Great processor, no heating, great speakers, average camera (which can be better with Gcam), 2yrs promised OS updates, unofficial support may go beyond that & most importantly it has great feel in your hand (may be glass sandwich helps). FYI: it also provides charger, case & usb to 3.5mm converter in the box :)

Anonymous, 21 Aug 2022I have Indian variant which was made in India & as per ... moreMany Thanks for your reply.
Based on every videos i've seen there seem to have a consistent pro's & cons:
Pros: great day light photos, somewhat great audio mic pickup when recording video and nothing else
Cons: Non-stop focus hunting (main), skin tones are off (brown skin have a yellowish tint), dynamic range could be better, Low light (which as you said I can just use GCam for it)
Would those sound accurate to you?
The Nothing Phone 1 is the same £399 with the F4 but the company has promised (and has delivered so far) monthly security updates, new feature drops and many bug fixes since it's release just a few weeks ago. That is a major plus for me because it means the company is pro-active in listening to its customers and actioning issues as soon as possible. The only cons for the Nothing 1 is it has no Dolby Atmos support unlike the F4 (tho it scored "Very Good" vs "Good" for the F4) and there is still no way to hide apps (without installing a 3rd-party launcher) unlike the Poco launcher.
I think there is a way to de-bloat useless apps and limit ads on the F4 without connecting to a PC (as i'm not familiar anyway) but I just wish to "compensate" for those apps and ads Poco should be looking to monthly or bi-monthly security update as for me it is an important aspect of owning a phone. I can uninstall and disable those useless apps and limit ad to some settings or something.
    Any other thoughts please?

Gino76ph, 19 Aug 2022I always think GCam is a hit and miss. Some developers are ... moreI have Indian variant which was made in India & as per the regional policy of POCO, we do not get any ads (their way of differentiating between poco & xiaomi devices). I found camera quality of stock camera app really good during daylight (I don't need to switch to Gcam). The portrait mode, the AI & HDR works smoothly. The videos captured (1080p 60fps) are great to watch. Occasional timelapse & slowmo are also satisfactory. Gcam is useful when light starts fading. I have tried Gcam fuse, BSG8.5 & LMC8.1. BSG is my preferred one since it is fast (& I tweak photos later using lightroom if needed). LMC has great deal of options(Leica, LDR, HDR+ etc) if you want complete control over camera but it kind of creates confusion if you don't know when to use what.
Yes, security updates is a pain point for some people. But poco never promised monthly updates, so can't complain. If you know how to debloat your phone using adb commands, you can remove most of default MIUI apps. I am getting good battery backup(32% left with 6+ SOT after 17+ hours since last charge), so I haven't done it. FYI : first custom rom was made available today so yes, seems like it will get some additional unofficial updates even after 3yrs (which is official end of support for the product). If you still have any doubts, there are two groups on Telegram - PocoF4Discussion & PocoF4Photography, you can get some better understanding (both positive & negative) there.

Anyone having issues with the speaker placement while playing or watching in landscape mode?

I'm planning to buy this phone but I want to get an idea regarding it.

Anonymous, 19 Aug 2022Not sure about the camera issues. I am not facing anything ... moreI always think GCam is a hit and miss. Some developers are great, other are not. Apart from BSG do you have a second choice developer for GCam? And i don't think GCam should be the magic bullet to get better camera photos on the F4. I would still prefer Poco updates its cameras. But in your opinion does the daylight, low light & videos are far better with GCam?
SO do you think if i install the Poco launcher from the Play Store the UX would be better than "stock" F4 launcher?
For me a quarterly security update is not good enough. We are in 2022 and security and privacy should be the utmost priority for phone makers. From a company that is based in China and a phone made in China I am not surprised. This is something i need to think about.
Also, re MIUI there are still ads in there. And there are some really unnecessary settings and options that should not be there that is why it may be smooth but underneath is clogged up and if too many memory is being used it battery life and performance will implode and affect the device in the long run.
Since launching a few weeks ago the Nothing Phone had 3 updates addressing issues directly given by users. And that alone is too good to ignore. That means the Nothing team is serious in its device.
          But what do you think?

I am not facing anything major related to camera (FYI : I mostly use gcam 8.5 by BSG & works great). Yes, I do miss the monthly security updates I used to receive with nokia 7 plus. But I am okay if security updates happen once a quarter. Apart from that, I installed poco 4.x beta launcher & it kind of made the whole experience better & smoother. Disabled MIUI optimization from developer options & now battery life has increased (7-8 hrs SOT) & ram management is also better. Yes, not that straight for average user to tweak things but can be done if you know where to find info.

Andre, 18 Aug 2022I can honestly say, you're seriously mentally challenged 😂You probably are. Have you done your research about the Poco F4?

When I had my old Poco F3 for almost 9 months last year i probably only had one MIUI update if not only two. And the security update was also slow and scarce. received security updated every four months. In 2022, these figures are APPALLING.
So, would you say MIUI 13 is now better with Poco F4? And how about security updates?
And do we even know if we will ever get camera updates as there's just too many issues with them them at the moment.

Not just the stutters and slowdowns but some menus are either not working (e.g. dark mode for individual apps) but there are sometimes stacks of settings on top of other settings that are either totally unnecessary or useless.
So, can you honestly say that the MIUI 13 is now more refined? And will Poco fulfil its promise of at least 3(?) MIUI updates for the F4?
