Anyone has camera app issue running sporadically when doing something else ? Like when you are doing something, and suddenly camera app suddenly shows up even when you are doing something else (even when the camera app is not previously running in the background).

So again as with Poco F3 and 11 lite, 12 lite becomes meaningless near to Poco f4 in terms of price. Like, better camera, better SoC, better display, for me, more interesting design and in overall, Poco f4 looks better than 12 lite.

Gino76ph, 24 Aug 2022Would the August security patch suggests its's getting... moreMay be, but poco has not promised anything except that this phone will get 2 OS updates & 3yrs of MIUI updates.
The sound quality distorts on any device on full sound. Normally no one does that (except when testing). So I don't think, there is any real world difference between stereo speakers on most phones in same category. At the end of the day, the speakers sound great & listening music on this device is a great experience in quiet environment. HiRes wireless is also supported, so bluetooth headphones also give you better experience. If you think too much, you will not be able to switch your phone soon. So put your bet on something. All 3 (Poco F4, Samsung A52s & Moto edge 30) are great devices. Even if you select either of these, you can use them for another 2-3 yrs safely. Dont focus on negative points, these midrangers have more positives than negatives. At the end of day, phones are meant to help you communicate with someone else & rest are just additions. No further reply on this thread from me, so all the best!!!

I'm also a bit concerned on the speakers as it scored "Good" compared to "Very Good" on the Nothing Phone.
And, what MIUI version are you on right now?
Do you expect or hearing about any new upcoming MIUI version for the Poco F4?

There is always something missing in the package. Hell, even flagships are not getting the treatment they used to get few years back. Market saturation & inflation are eating up profits, producing less worthy upgrades & hard to recommend phones. But still if you can overlook the updates issue, Poco F4 is a great performance oriented devices & the screen is great for content consumption. Quality control also seems better & as per the news, Aug security patch is going to be released in few days (that's 2nd update since launch).

With your r... moreMy absolute budget is around £400/$450 so there are a host of choices that can fit into that budget. I'm now having second thoughts on Nothing Phone 1 as each day I hear issues that suggest not so good quality control; the bugs can be fixed with software updates but being a 1st-gen device I think I will wait for the 2nd-gen or even 3rd-gen. An iPhone is definitely not a choice as i'm more familiar and comfortable in the Android ecosystem. At least Motorola is a wee bit clearer in their update plans tho in their website its a bit vague especially the security updates. But that makes them better than Xiaomi with update info almost non-existent on their website and hating the ads too. That leaves me with Samsung. Despises their One UI lag even with Snapdragon-powered devices but they remain fastest with updates and bug fixes . A 3rd-party launcher may not necesarilly be a good thing as I mentioned earlier they are notorious with restricting Android gestures when a launcher is installed. So, what is left now? Lol.

JimmyTheGreatest, 23 Aug 2022Maybe you should wait for Poco F5.Maybe I should. But that advice doesn't help with someone who's looking to buy one in the next few days.

With your requirements, A52s or A53 seems like the best option (at least Samsung clearly states update policies for each phone - monthly, quarterly etc). Nothing is not even gonna bother with OS update till next year (so much for the hype). If you have enough money, go with Samsung 21FE or Iphone 12. These can pretty much satisfy all your expectations.

                          Where is the f4 pro?

Anonymous, 22 Aug 2022Seems like for you, camera is the most important component.... moreThe Pixel 6a seems good value but i still think the UI is very basic compared to One UI, Oxygen OS or MIUI. the screen is small for my needs. The Pixel 6 however is a good size but let down by battery life. Same with the Pro model.
Nothing phone is a distant second choice than Poco F4 simply coz of bugs and seemingly hardware issues based on quality control. I do commend their proactive quickness in pushing updates to fix those bugs tho.
Poco F4 for me is a 70% upgrade over the F3. But let down by Poco's negligence and lack of understanding in pushing much needed updates especially the cameras but that can be partially solved via GCam or Leica Cam tho i've heard the latter is either not anymore available or it is a very buggy app.
Samsung may be a good middle ground of great cameras after a Pixel but One UI's lag is a big turn off. Yes I am aware i can just install third-party launchers to make the phone much much faster but Samsung is notorious in "disabling" or blocking Android gesture compatibility when using 3rd-party launchers - this is well documented and hundreds of video evidences out there for you to see.
A Moto Edge 30 is also an enticing choice. But with a small battery capacity and not very dependable history of slow updates are a le down. But do they push updates faster than Xiaomi or Poco? If it's a Yes for you then the Edge 30 may well be my next phone.

Gino76ph, 21 Aug 2022I'm even no split in half between the Poco F4 & th... moreSeems like for you, camera is the most important component. If you want pixel like quality, get a Pixel !!! This phone is performance focused & camera is the weakest link in the package. Yes, Gcam gets you better images. Even with stock, I haven't had the issues you mentioned - brown looks brown, blue looks blue etc. Never captured anything directly against the sun so no comments. F3 was never released in India, so never got hands on it, so no comment on that front as well.
Xiaomi Leica camera app is good & adds some additional presets like 'Leica Natural, Vivid, B&W' but don't expect drastic improvement.
In India, the difference between base variants on Nothing & F4 is more than 8k INR( > 100$) with additional cost of charger & considering Nothing is new & might not be able to do everything promised (Recall Nokia 9 pureview), I was not willing to put my bet on it. I would have preferred Samsung A52s(better camera + IP67 rating) or Moto 30 edge(Nearly identical cameras with less price) over Nothing.
I was aware of shortcomings of F4 before I bought the phone & I was okay with it and that's why I went ahead with it. So far, it has satisfied my requirements.

I do not mind the colours boosted slightly but not too much. When I say "natural-looking" i mean it should be the same colour as i see with my eyes e.g. reds should be reds, brown skin appears brown and not with this yellowish hue, blue sky does not appear light blue or overblown in the background when directly against the sun, etc.
Re the security updates (again) do you expect Poco to push bi-monthly or quarterly security updates the very least? (when I had my F3 i had quarterly security updates).
Re the dual speakers would you say the F4 sounds better than the F3? (GSM Arena rated the Nothing phone better than the F4 despite lacking Dolby Atmos)
What GCam mods/versions would you recommend so I can get that Pixel-like photos quality, performance & stabilization? I also heard there is the Xiaomi Leica camera app but apparently there have been numerous bugs and issues .

                                  1. Focus hunting is noticeable in 4k capture but not with FHD 60/30 fps, so seems more of software issue (which can be fixed via some future update)
                                  2. Default camera tries to boost colors (& most people like it) but yes, not as natural as Iphone (if you prefer that way). The default photos algo will try to make photos more beautiful (& can't exactly turn it off). But I believe, except Samsung & Iphone, most manufactures do it. Even Samsung offers to do it (but it is optional).
                                  3. Nothing phone has run into a bunch hardware issues & you should check them out. Screen is most important component since you will use it more than any other stuff (speakers, camera, bluetooth etc). F4 has better screen in its competition range.
                                  4. Yes, more frequent security updates would have been good but you can't always get best of everything so you need to work with Better.
Poco has better screen, most 5G bands supported, Good battery backup, faster charging, Great processor, no heating, great speakers, average camera (which can be better with Gcam), 2yrs promised OS updates, unofficial support may go beyond that & most importantly it has great feel in your hand (may be glass sandwich helps). FYI: it also provides charger, case & usb to 3.5mm converter in the box :)

Based on every videos i've seen there seem to have a consistent pro's & cons:
Pros: great day light photos, somewhat great audio mic pickup when recording video and nothing else
Cons: Non-stop focus hunting (main), skin tones are off (brown skin have a yellowish tint), dynamic range could be better, Low light (which as you said I can just use GCam for it)
Would those sound accurate to you?
The Nothing Phone 1 is the same £399 with the F4 but the company has promised (and has delivered so far) monthly security updates, new feature drops and many bug fixes since it's release just a few weeks ago. That is a major plus for me because it means the company is pro-active in listening to its customers and actioning issues as soon as possible. The only cons for the Nothing 1 is it has no Dolby Atmos support unlike the F4 (tho it scored "Very Good" vs "Good" for the F4) and there is still no way to hide apps (without installing a 3rd-party launcher) unlike the Poco launcher.
I think there is a way to de-bloat useless apps and limit ads on the F4 without connecting to a PC (as i'm not familiar anyway) but I just wish to "compensate" for those apps and ads Poco should be looking to monthly or bi-monthly security update as for me it is an important aspect of owning a phone. I can uninstall and disable those useless apps and limit ad to some settings or something.
                                    Any other thoughts please?

Gino76ph, 19 Aug 2022I always think GCam is a hit and miss. Some developers are ... moreI have Indian variant which was made in India & as per the regional policy of POCO, we do not get any ads (their way of differentiating between poco & xiaomi devices). I found camera quality of stock camera app really good during daylight (I don't need to switch to Gcam). The portrait mode, the AI & HDR works smoothly. The videos captured (1080p 60fps) are great to watch. Occasional timelapse & slowmo are also satisfactory. Gcam is useful when light starts fading. I have tried Gcam fuse, BSG8.5 & LMC8.1. BSG is my preferred one since it is fast (& I tweak photos later using lightroom if needed). LMC has great deal of options(Leica, LDR, HDR+ etc) if you want complete control over camera but it kind of creates confusion if you don't know when to use what.
Yes, security updates is a pain point for some people. But poco never promised monthly updates, so can't complain. If you know how to debloat your phone using adb commands, you can remove most of default MIUI apps. I am getting good battery backup(32% left with 6+ SOT after 17+ hours since last charge), so I haven't done it. FYI : first custom rom was made available today so yes, seems like it will get some additional unofficial updates even after 3yrs (which is official end of support for the product). If you still have any doubts, there are two groups on Telegram - PocoF4Discussion & PocoF4Photography, you can get some better understanding (both positive & negative) there.
