Bought my Redmi 5 (2GB / 16GB; Black) on 6 July 2018.
Paid MYR 459 from official dealer, 1 year local Malaysia warranty (US$ 113.66). Bargain.
Very impressed with the build quality, the screen is excellent with good contrast and brightness, very sharp despite "only" HD+ resolution.
Slim, light, looks slick in black. Updated to MIUI 9.6 then installed Microsoft Launcher - handles 6x8 very nicely, smallest icon size in launcher settings. Set to high performance mode and turned off all animations in Developer Options in Settings. Very slick and speedy now. Impressed with the SD 450 CPU. Memory management is very good, not noticeable that only 2GB RAM. Only thing I've remarked is slightly slow eMMC read times.
After latest MIUI update, turned on Full Screen gesture controls, which hides the normal bottom navigation controls, freeing up a good amount of screen real estate.
Thus far delighted with the handset. Good battery life, but takes over 2 hours to charge fully (no fast charging) with the provided 2A adaptor.
Not run any benchmarks yet, but it's definitely speedier and slicker than my aging OnePlus X!
Surprised by how good the camera is, even got excellent low light shots - despite what the reviews say.
At this price frankly you can't go wrong and I'm delighted with my choice. Recommended.

redmi destroyed the phone with th last update....lags all time...speaker get closed by itself while making a call.... performance is very very slow....it was a great phone...what a shame

Big problem is that when you keep mobile data on whole day it looses tower or signals 5 to 6 times a day.anyone noticed???
Company should pay attention to this problem of redmi5 2/16.

Pros nice size . I would not recommend this phone because the camera and video is not good also the blocking a text msg feature doesnt work . Color is Rich volume so so. speed great connection with T-Mobile is not the best

Bought this phone just a week back. Got to say it's a mini powerhouse!! The 720p screen coupled with SD450 provides an excellent experience. Gaming may even be smoother than the redmi note 5. A very good purchase.

Bought it. Buzzing noise from the earpiece while placing a regular call. Maybe just bad luck. Otherwise, the phone is great! Love it.
