the.one, 18 Jan 2018I agree with you, the whole rom thing in Xiaomi brand is ... moreyeah correct.. earlier while i was using redmi 2 prime things were easier since redmi 2 had unlocked bootloader and i was able to flash eu.rom . Now xiaomi is making things more difficult and complicated and thereby shooting themselves in the foot with unlocked bootloaders, delayed launches , delayed updates etc.

the whole rom thing in Xiaomi brand is a big disadvantage. unlocking is not something easy for everyone, and the process is extremely tedious. I love Xiaomi but sometimes their nonsense logic makes me hate them.

Tho I'm not sure I just got the phone today and I'm not gonna bother with that yet for a while.
But man the phone looks gorgeous and the screen looks awesome and even tho in some reviews they talked about how the color/brightness shifts when looking at the phone at an angle, I haven't noticed any shift in brightness nor colors whatsoever.
Also the phone is quite easy to use even one-handed. (I don't have long fingers) Tho if you have small hands or short fingers you'd probably appreciate the smaller footprint of the Redmi 5.
The speaker is pretty loud and pretty clear with minimal distortion and compared to Mi A1 it's just a tad less clear and less bass but in loudness it's pretty close.
The sound from headphone jack tho is quite different compared to Mi A1. It's pretty loud but a lot less soundstage and more distortion compared to Mi A1 as I tested on my Steelseries Siberia 200, Not the best sounding headphones but still Mi A1 is clearly ahead. But when you use something like an in-ear headphones. The difference is pretty much not there anymore. But there's a hissing sound on Mi A1 when there was nothing playing regardless of the volume level and what screen I was on. Of course this was absent on the Redmi 5 Plus which is a good thing.
Battery life is very good I bought it at 2 PM while it had 43% battery. I left it on auto brightness and been using it pretty much non-stop since then and now at 8 PM it has 22% left still lol

For my device (5A) there is still no developer rom. Only stable.

As an active miui forum user I tell you what's going on, first check here: http://en.miui.com/download-340.html this is where you supposed to see the official global rom, but you wont, because its not released yet, if you are talking about this post: http://en.miui.com/thread-1501658-1-1.html I tell you 1 thing, the post is useless, if you read it you will notice, 0% success rate. because there is no fastboot rom, and the recovery cant be used to replace the china rom with global. the good news is anyone trying to unlock redmi5+ has to wait 360hours (15 days!!!!) instead of normal 72hours :))

Camera is better on honor 7x but redmi 5 plus battery is best.
