john, 23 Nov 2019im not sure whether i should upgrade or not. Can you give m... moreI've performed the upgrade for a friend a week ago. Here are not things my friend noticed after:
    * Gboard (Official Google Keyboard) started to crash, this impacted the unlock screen as well since the keyboard to type in the unlock code was not appearing all the time. Replacing the keyboard with a different one solve the issue
    * UI changes, icons changed shape and there are some new animations
    * Some new ringtones (with specific theme)

It gets everything done, although it's not as quick as some more expensive phones. Build quality is quite poor. The headphone jack on mine never worked well, headphone plugs just pop out. Now after 1,5 years the USB socket stopped working properly.

The only thing I was regret on this phone is you cannot move apps to the SD card. When google it says you have to root the phone. I tried few times and failed. Any simple solution for that? thanks

I bought this phone for my sister who is still in elementary school and so far the phone is functioning properly, Xiaomi has also updated this phone to Android 8.1.0 with June 2019 security patch.
Even though it didn't get an update to Android 9, i was quite satisfied with Xiaomi's after-sales support for their cheap phones.

I have been using this phone for about 1 year and 2 months now. Given that I bought it for less than $100, I must admit that I am more than happy with this purchase. For this money, the design and performance of this device are impressive. Great build quality - I have never used a case or screen protector, and have dropped the phone on the concrete a dozen times - no damage whatsoever.

My usage varies - I work in front of a computer and during work days the battery life is just fine. However, in my free time and when I'm on the road, I tend to do lots of browsing and YouTube - this drains the battery a lot and sometimes I would need to recharge in like 3.5-4 hours of usage. This phone is not for power users, but I doubt this will surprise anyone.

The really weak point is the camera - there is not much detail in the photos, there are often issues with the focus. Overall, you can take a quick photo for your archive just fine, but the quality will be below average. This should not be a deal breaker at this price point, as I don't think anyone expects an impressive camera in a sub-$100 device.

The phone also received an Oreo update and is currently running the June 2019 Android security patch - kudos to Xiaomi for updating this budget device, which is already 2 generations old.

I am still happy with the phone and plan to keep it for some more time, as long as the performance is still fine. Since the device has 16GB storage and 2GB ram only, this is obviously not a phone one should expect to run smoothly for many years ahead.

I hope this long post is informative. I really believe that Xiaomi are doing a fantastic job at offering great phones at insanely low prices, without sacrificing build quality and even updating their aging budget devices. If you are after a budget device that will deliver way above its asking price, look no further than the Redmi A series.

After 1year of usage and after the latest updates and exactly after the warranty is expired, now I am unable to make calls. Service Center says the motherboard needs to replace at a cost of Rs.4000. Is this a planned obsolescence!.

I keep wondering why this phone is the number 5 best selling in the world and yet doesn't have an official review .....why it's not getting love ??
