Then depending on its community & ROM developers, it may or may not get Custom ROMs.
If you like flashing ROMs, you should always check available custom ROMs for the phone before you buy it.

azly, 23 Aug 2020can anyone help me? if im a gamer, which phone do i have to... moreRedmi 9 for games like PUBG. It's more powerful and can give 40-45FPS in PUBG.
Realme 5i for VR games & camera. It can record 4K videos & has video stabilisation for 1080p videos.
It can play PUBG at 35-40FPS, which is fine as well.
- Redmi 9 can't play most VR games as it doesn't have a Gyro sensor. It has a Virtual Gyro, which doesn't work with most VR apps.
- Both phones have weak selfie cameras.
You should also consider Realme 6i. It has better performance, Gyro, better selfie & good back camera & records 1080p with Eis - just no 4K.
If possible, go for Realme 5 Pro. It's way better than all 3 phones in every category compared to the small price difference.

I bought prematurely the Redmi 9, not realizing that the MTK chips will give me trouble.
Now before even I start using it, I read in xda and other forums that there will be even more headachee.
- users reporting that the NFC version cannot unlock the bootloader for some reason
- no custom roms
Can I hope for at least an EU rom with this phone or just sell it?

Iam A Fool, 22 Aug 2020As My Name States A lot I Haven"t Used Any Of The 2 Re... moreif anyone who wants to buy this device, make sure it is just for gaming or daily routine such as instagram, facebook, twitter or whatever. the cameras are not very bad act, but if you're photographer, i suggest to do not put this device in your list🙂based on my own experience 🙂yaa hhah I've changed to realme 5i and it is better in both performances, cameras and processor 🙃

1. Display:
Redmi 9 display may be FHD & most people will wrongfully say it's better. Its display is bad in terms of outdoor visibility (328nits) & colour accuracy (4.5 - 6.7).
Realme 5i has better outdoor visibility & colour accuracy. HD or 720p display don't look much different than FHD display at hand-distance, as long as phone screen isn't too big.
In watching movies, Realme 5i will show you better colours while Redmi 9 will show you sharper videos. Personally, I'd prefer better colours & visibility.
2. Camera:
Realme 5i has MUCH better camera than Redmi 9.
Main camera:
Realme 5i has 1.8, 1/2.9 apertures & 1.25um. Meaning, it can capture much better details & light than Redmi 9.
Secondly, Realme 5i can record 4K videos & has Eis (video stabilisation), while Redmi 9 can only record in 1080, 30FPS without stabilisation.
Selfie Camera:
Both phones only have 8MP selfie camera.
Finally, both phones support Gcam which makes camera quality much much better than Stock Camera. But Gcam has "Viewfinder Lag" in most Mediatek devices, so Gcam works better on Snapdragon devices.
My friend has Realme 5i and I asked him about cameras and he said "they're great". He has a good idea about cameras in this price as well, but I doubt selfie camera is good though. 8MP can't be good.
3. Scree Mirroring:
Redmi 9 allows you to mirror videos from phone to TV/other screens at 1080p resolution (Widevine L1) and it has IR Blaster, so you can use it as a remote for TV, AC & other stuff as well.
Realme 5i also lets you mirror videos, but at 720p resolution. Which isn't bad for watching videos on TV but still not as good. It doesn't have IR Blaster.
4. Gyro Sensor:
Realme 5i has real Gyro sensor, so you can use VR Apps/Games that are trending right now.
Redmi 9 has "Virtual Gyro", which doesn't let you use majority of VR apps.
Verdict:
If you live in Pakistan, I only recommend Redmi 9 if you're buying 3,32GB version for 21,000.
In 27-28,500, your best options are:
Realme 6i (Best performance, good cameras, only shortcoming is 720p screen mirroring & no 4K video recording).
Nokia 7 Plus (Best camera & display, has Gyro, maximum Gcam compatibility, 1080p mirroring, Aluminium body).
Or if you can increase your budget slightly (32k):
Realme 5 Pro (Incredible gaming performance, cameras & features including 1080p mirroring, 4K videos & so on).
Xiaomi Mi A3 (Very good cameras with 4K videos, Aluminum body. Shortcoming is display quality).
