The culprit is on the underpowered processor, SD662, the full hd+ screen, and also the unoptimized MIUI 12 for this processor. The more RAM doesn't make the smartphone much faster.
Then Redmi 9T got the extra 8MP wide angle camera, which doesn't take good image.
If you want to save money, Poco M3 is the one to go.
Else, if you want Redmi 9T, stretch a little bit more to get Redmi Note 9S instead.

4GB is enough.
6GB RAM will allow you to keep more apps in background, without closing. But if the apps are heavy/semi-heavy, you may feel that your phone is lagging & have to close background apps yourself.
This is because its chipset isn't that powerful. But it's still more than enough for most non-gamer users.

Bought the Redmi 9T last week. 6/128 variant. After a few tweaks(disable ads, msa, bloatware delete...) and update to MIUI 12.0.4.0, so far the experience has been smooth. I'm not a heavy user, I don't always stare at the phone like an idiot and ignoring everything around 😂. Not even a gamer anymore. My gaming years has been long dead since 2017.
Battery life is great! The longest running time I had with this phone is almost 3 days with 18% charge left. The only bug I found is the "More Dark mode option" under Display in settings. Dark mode for apps under Individual apps is gone. It's missing. The only way to have it is to search the "More Dark mode option" in the search bar in settings, then you'll get the individual apps back. Hope they'll fix this in the next update. I'm kind of annoyed by that bug.

It is because it is the processor that is underpowered.
The provided RAM that use UFS 2.2 technology is already very fast.
