Xiaomi Redmi A2, A2+ launching in India on May 19

The Xiaomi Redmi A2 and Redmi A2+ unveiled in March will debut in India on May 19. This revelation comes from Redmi, who shared a Twitter teaser announcing the Redmi A2 series' India launch next Friday at 11AM local time.

The company hasn't explicitly mentioned the Redmi A2 or A2+, but using the word "series" and Redmi A2+'s image in the promo page on Xiaomi India's official website confirms the Redmi A2 and A2+ will launch in India next week.

The Redmi A2 and Redmi A2+ are identical devices, with the latter featuring a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner. Both phones are powered by the Helio G36 SoC, sport 6.52" HD+ LCDs, and pack 5,000 mAh batteries. They have 8MP primary cameras on the rear, joined by depth units, with the selfie cameras on the front using 5MP sensors.

My wife and mother in law, who are not tech savvy have no problem using phones with microUSB (Samsung Grand Prime, Huawei Y6P) over the years, so I dont think microUSB is such a big drawback.

Can you explain please? I think you misunderstood. I am not talking about usb cables. You might replace your cable for 50 cents, but if your phone port is damaged I am sure it will cost way more than 50 cents(of whatever currency).
