I'm probably moving out from this device soon, got an offer to buy the Samsung A55 for 305 USD and I took it... I liked the hardware but between the software and less than stellar battery life I'm kinda fed up with Xiaomi for the time being. Maybe I'll try again with the 14 series.

ashrobb, 17 Jul 2024Seems an issue on your end, or in your unit. I reach 230 Mb... moreAfter having slow Wi-Fi on my device, I sold it and went to buy a new one, now in black color. Did a speedtest and iperf3 on my device with stock MIUI 14.0.9.0, went around 590Mbps on 5Ghz band. Updated to latest HyperOS 1.0.9.0 and now Wi-Fi is having problems again, won't go higher than 100Mbps in Speedtest or iperf3. This problem is BS.

Anonymous, 21 Jul 2024Sigh... I feel like you're being way too skeptical her... moreI appreciate the only way to try is to buy it. But having had Xiaomi phones in the past 3 years (albeit all midrange phones) i have been disappointed with the slow updates and poor cameras.
Right now i'm turning my eyes on a Xiaomi 13T instead as it is just £350 right now. If it stays that way till payday I may be to get it.
But you see even if the 13T is on Android 14 and a May 2024 security will it continue to get quality of life updates? That's the big question.

Anonymous, 21 Jul 2024No, Motorola has very bad update policy, almost non-existen... moreThe Moto G84 is my first Motorola in years. It punches above it's weight to be honest. If the G85 had flat screen I would have bought that instead. The Moto is currently on Android 14 and on May security update. If I get the Redmi Note 13 Pro 5G what Android OS version and security month is it on right now?
You see even if the Redmi is on Android 14 and a May 2024 security will it continue to get quality of life updates? So, the question goes back: Motorola or Xiaomi in terms of updates as mentioned above?

Gino76ph, 21 Jul 2024if you ask me to be honest a 90-day turnover for security u... moreSigh... I feel like you're being way too skeptical here, mate. Go ahead and buy one and just see for yourself whether you like using it or not, it's the only way to truly judge. If you end up disliking it, then you can go ahead and sell it, because I truly have no other recommendations besides this one in terms of camera quality and performance. Maybe the Pixel 7a, but that's an older phone, it's also more expensive, only has 128GB of storage, and it may not be available where you live.
That's all, I won't return to this forum anytime soon. Sorry, but I've got my own business to worry about besides phones. Peace out.

Gino76ph, 17 Jul 2024If i can disable ads on a Xiaomi device by turning off reco... moreNo, Motorola has very bad update policy, almost non-existent in fact. Pick moto, if you want the most stable experience without gimmicks, but then have no expectations and you will be stuck on the out of the box Android version basically almost forever. Pick xiaomi for updates, if you're a tech enthusiast caring for updates, but then there's no guarantee that something can fail with the update.

But im curious if Xiaomi have actually improved their ways in terms of listening to customer feedback as I don't see any proof out there apart from if you own a flagship and updates may be a bit quicker. Maybe.

Gino76ph, 20 Jul 2024Would you say a 90-dat "turnround" of security up... moreI don't pay attention to security updates as much, so I don't personally care whether I get updates every 30 days, 60 days, or 90, whatever. But we can all agree it's still better to have updates than none at all.
Honestly though, the latest security updates aren't always guaranteed to protect your phone. My advice would be avoiding malicious websites, not sharing your personal info to people/websites you don't trust, and avoiding installing suspicious APK files from phony emails claiming to be wedding invitations or job offers.
Regarding how often they update their system apps, once in a while, but I don't know how often they do so in a span of a year.

And during it's lifetime apart from OS updates how often will Xiaomi/Redmi phones receive quality of life updates (such as the Gallery or Photos app, Camera app, Security app, etc.) in say a span of 12 months?

Gino76ph, 17 Jul 2024If i can disable ads by turning off recommendations and not... moreSome apps like Themes allow you to disable ads, but they may still occasionally show up from time to time. Doesn't matter if you have Private DNS turned on or not.
For 1st party apps, some of them can be uninstalled, but others such as GetApps, Mi Video, and Mi Browser cannot. Most other manufacturers like Samsung are no different regarding this, even Google themselves preload their Pixel phones with Google apps not everyone will use.
For security updates, it's usually every 2-3 months, while OS updates may be irregular. But they do post roadmaps of which devices will be getting the latest OS update on their social media accounts once in a while, so keep an eye out for them.
HyperOS certainly isn't perfect and I certainly have my own gripes with it, but I feel like its weaknesses are exaggerated. The phone is still perfectly usable for everyday usage and is quite snappy, it's just not for the ones looking for the most stable or clean experience with regular software updates.
If you want the cleanest software experience with long updates, consider getting a Pixel instead.

rsss, 19 Jul 2024Does redmi is receiving same amount of OS updates same as S... moreAs for why Samsung is removing the headphone jack, well... Apple started removing them since 2016 with the iPhone 7/7 Plus to try to sell their AirPods to more people, and almost every company have been slowly following suit since.
You can buy a USB-C to 3.5mm jack dongle if you want to keep using wired headphones, but they won't sound as good as using a dedicated headphone jack.

RS, 18 Jul 2024WHICH one is better Redmi note 13 pro or A55 of samsung?I have both the A55 and this Redmi. A55 is snappier, software is more polished and battery is better.
I like the Redmi's main camera a bit more, same for the screen (and screen bezels) and speakers. It is slimmer and less heavy. But the Samsung is really good. I think it is unfair to compare them since the Galaxy is more expensive and goes against the Redmi Note 13 Pro+. This one should compete against the A35, and there I think this is a better device overall.
