Xiaomi Redmi Note 14 4G review

GSMArena Team, 15 February 2025.

Competition

As has been the case for the last few years now, the Redmis start a bit high up the price ladder and slowly make their way to their true price bracket. However, the 4G version of the vanilla Redmi Note 14 seems like a decent deal from the very beginning.

The device goes against last year's Xiaomi Poco X6, Realme 14x (if you can find one still on sale), Samsung Galaxy A25 and the OnePlus Nord CE4 Lite.

The Redmi doesn't stand out with raw performance in this company, but it has slightly better battery life than most, a competitive fast charging solution, a somewhat dependable camera system and also a better display than most. The Poco X6 is a small exception, which appears to be more powerful, with twice the storage, comparable display, 4K video recording and faster charging. If you are okay with going for a year-old model, then don't hesitate.

In the €200 category, the Redmi Note 14 4G stacks up well against the competition. Keep in mind, if you are inclined to add around €50 to your budget, you can get a better phone in almost every aspect.

Verdict

Unlike the 5G model, the Redmi Note 14 4G seems like a more competitive solution in its own class. Even though the phone doesn't have some standout features, it does appear to be a good all-rounder that improves upon its predecessor. Sure, the ultrawide camera is gone, but we don't count this as a huge loss. We've got longer battery life, a nice display, an aluminum frame with an updated Gorilla Glass 5 front panel and decent enough camera performance.

Our biggest complaint is not supporting 4K video recording, and the chipset feels outdated for a 2025 release. Most competitors support up to 4K recording and have more powerful chips. And although the battery life is an improvement over last year's Redmi Note 13 4G, we expected more from a low-power system with a generous 5,500 mAh battery.

  • Improved durability and IP54 rating.
  • Bright and nicely specced flat OLED display.
  • Decent battery life.
  • Dependable main camera.
  • 3.5mm jack, IR blaster, microSD card slot.

Cons

  • Aging chipset.
  • No 4K video, no ultrawide, disappointing selfie camera.
  • No charger bundled in the EU.
  • Doesn't come with the latest Android 15/HyperOS 2 out of the box.
