Xiaomi Redmi Note 14 Pro 4G review
HyperOS 1.03 on top of Android 14
The Redmi Note 14 Pro 4G runs Xiaomi's HyperOS 1.02 on top of Android 14. In contrast, the Poco X7 Pro comes with Android 15-based Hyper OS 2. We expect the Redmi Note 14 Pro 4G will also be getting that version soon. Still, this does rub us the wrong way since it is effectively a not particularly subtle trick to offer users fewer major OS updates, which we do not appreciate in any way.
Regarding software support, Xiaomi offers at least three years of major updates and 4 years of security patches.
You will feel right at home if you come from an MIUI-powered Xiaomi. The software isn't very different from the last few iterations of MIUI, but it does appear to be more polished, and Xiaomi claims to have some under-the-hood optimizations as well.
We've already covered HyperOS extensively in our detailed review, and nothing has changed. Most of the features tend to stay the same across Redmi and Poco devices, but there are still some slight differences here and there.
Google Gemini is onboard and works very well, so if you fancy some AI help, it is there for you.
Benchmarks and performance
Probably the most significant downgrade from the Redmi Note 14 Pro 5G model to the Redmi Pro 14 Pro 4Ge is the choice of chipset.
The 4G model we have for review today uses the MediaTek Helio G100 Ultra. It is a fairly modern chip from Q3 2024 that offers quite decent connectivity options and an upgraded ISP with 200MP camera support. Aside from that, it is essentially the same as the popular Helio G99 from 2022, just with a more powerful ISP.
Feel free to disregard the Ultra moniker, as Mediatek never reveals what's different about its Ultra chipsets, and they usually perform just like their non-Ultra counterparts in our testings. It's either marketing or we are talking about a 1-2% improvement at best.
The MediaTek Helio G100 Ultra is a 6nm chip with two ARM Cortex-A76 CPU cores, clocked at up to 2.2 GHZ and another six Cortex-A55 ones, working at up to 2.0 GHz. The onboard GPU is a Mali-G57 MC2 unit.
The chipset is paired with LPDDR4X RAM and UFS 2.2 storage. You can get the Redmi Note 14 Pro 4G in one of the following memory configurations: 128/8GB, 256/8GB, 256/12GB, or 512/12GB RAM. Of course, the availability of these versions might vary from market to market.
Many of you might be happy to hear that the storage is expandable via the included microSD slot.
As we said, the Helio G100 Ultra isn't a very powerful chipset, particularly for this price point. Since you are getting essentially the same hardware as the Heli G99 with a swapped ISP, it makes sense that the Redmi Note 14 Pro 4G performs almost identically to last year's Redmi Note 13 Pro 4G with the Helio G99 chip.
Don't expect much raw power from the CPU or the GPU. There is still enough performance here to deliver a smooth UI experience and to power most daily tasks. Gaming with higher graphics quality, however, is a bit of a challenge for the Redmi Note 14 4G.
Thermal-throttling
On a more positive note, the Helio G100 Ultra might not be a performance chart-topper, but at least it doesn't put out too much heat, and the heat that is there is well managed by the Redmi Note 14 Pro 4G. The phone displayed excellent thermal management, even with prolonged stress testing.
This goes for both CPU and GPU stress testing. Plus, the phone's surface never got unpleasantly warm to the touch. So, excellent marks for thermal management all around.

Yes. 4G with only half the cancer rate of 5G. You should try it.

Wait they are selling 4G phone? For 300 €? In 2025? Is this real?
