dev1ce, 04 Feb 2021I bought this phone after the performance of the Asus Max P... moreThanks for honest review.
Although Redmi Note 8 (not Pro) beats it in everything except battery timing, but strangely you say it's bad. You can read Gsmarena review of both phones.

    Here's what's wrong with Redmi Note 9:
    1. Display brightness is only 370nits. That's lower than Realme 3. It means its visibility is bad in sunlight.

(Redmi Note 8 brightness reaches 473nits, and goes up to 630nits if you leave it on "Auto")

    2. Display colour accuracy is quite good (3.7), but nowhere near as good as Redmi Note 8 colour accuracy.

(Redmi Note 8 colour accuracy is 1.9, which is excellent & extremely rare even compared to much higher priced phones)

    3. Bad app optimisation. This makes its performance unstable & laggy.
To start with, what is weak Helio G85 chipset doing in price range of Snapdragon 712 & Helio G90T phones??? Helio G85 performance is so close to Helio G70/G80 that it's impossible to tell the difference even in heavy use.

You can only call its performance good if you're a light user, or somoo who has never played games at above 40FPS.
In fact, if you've the option of going with Helio G70 with 6GB RAM, you should go with that instead of this phone for gaming (Infinix Hot 10).

    4. Its loud speaker in below average - as you can see in Gsmarena's review.
    Redmi Note 8 scores better.

    5. Camera is extremely bad. No one should mistakenly buy it for camera.
    - It only records video in 1080p from main & ultra wide camera. I don't know if it's even stabilised or not.
The dynamic range is truthfully worst I've seen in this price. I would even say Infinix Hot 10 & nearly all entry level phones have better dynamic range than it.

(In comparison, Redmi Note 8 records videos in 4K 30FPS, 1080p 60FPS, 1080p 30FPS from Ultra Wide Camera, and finally stabilised 1080p 30FPS from main camera.)

    6. It supports Gcam, but not properly:
    i) Gcam lags on Mediatek phones, including Redmi Note 9 (viewfinder lag). Only root or installing very old Gcam versions can fix it.
ii) The "Capture Time" & the "Processing Time" of Gcam is *much* higher on Mediatek phones compared to Snapdragon, even Snapdragon 665.

I might have missed some flaws of Redmi Note 9, but I think it's clear that apart from smaller battery (which isn't small at all), Redmi Note 8 is easily better than Redmi Note 9.

Redmi Note 9 does have more powerful chipset but it's still weak if you're considering it for gaming in this price. You can get Snapdragon 712, 720G or Helio G90T phones which are much more powerful & better for gaming.
Redmi Note 8 performance is adequate enough to support semi-heavy use & lag free gaming as well.

I've used this phone for a month idek what phone yall are using. The performance is okay for the price no lag playing pubg and for social media use, have u updated the miui? Based on the review the phone lags so much in miui11 but resolved in the miui12 updates so I really recommend to update ur miui. Photo quality is good if you use Gcam only, but video quality is kinda bad. Battery is excellent never have to bring my charger for my daily use. For less than $200 it's the best mid-range phone in it's price range I think.

Mi note 9 is really a very very worst phone. I used only 6 days before that 6 days I have got many problem like hanging & the clarity problem of display brightness, & I went to service center I asked to change the phone because we can replace the phone before 7 days. I went on 6th day but they didn't replace it. They want the proof that wt probelm is happening. Really a very very worst phone . & the service is very bad & this phone is worst & very bad phone.

I bought this phone after the performance of the Asus Max Pro M1 3/32 was no longer reliable in 2020. yeah redmi note performance is great, I've never experienced lag(i buy 4/64 version btw) but camera quality, battery lifetime and network is very bad and i think my asus max pro m1 doing better than this. yeah for prospective buyers im not recommended this phone to you, you can buy better phone like redmi note 8 pro its worth than redmi note 9 6/128 with the same price

Not really bad tho, the performance was great but u notice some lil' lag but it's still good, the camera was great y'know, it's HD, just wear ur glasses lol jk, Redmi Note 9 is the best just don't listen from trouble makers, they just bought the fake and they really think all the produx are fake, read ur Imei or S/N no. on ur box and confirm on mi.com/global/verify/#/en/tab/imei and see if ur Mi/Redmi/Poco were real

bel, 02 Feb 2021does this phone support 5ghz wifi? does this phone better t... moreIt's not worth buying if you've Huawei Y9 Prime 2019. It'll be a very small upgrade.

They've similar performance, but Y9 Prime has better app optimisation.
Camera wise, not much difference in quality except for features of videos. Redmi Note 9 supports Gcam, which is an advantage.
Display wise, Y9 Prime 2019 is better.
Features wise, Redmi Note 9 has IR Blaster like all Xiaomi phones.
Battery wise, Redmi Note 9 is a little better.

Overall, this phone is not worth it. I highly recommend considering other options instead of it.
You can see all the negative reviews. They're all true. I warned people against buying this phone when it was only announced, and now everyone is complaining about all the issues I expected it to have.

If you want performance, especially gaming, go for Snapdragon 710, Helio G90T, Kirin 810 phones. Even Helio G70, G80 & Snapdragon 675 are better than this phone.

If you want camera, go with phones like Realme 5 Pro & Redmi Note 8, which have good camera sensors, support Gcam - with Snapdragon chipset.
Gcam improves camera quality A LOT, but it lags on Mediatek chipset phones.

If you want good amplifier for listening to HiFi music in earphones, then Xiaomi phones are overall best.
                      Same in aspect of features.

For battery timing, any brand's phone with 4000mAh battery should be enough.
Although Xiaomi phones use more battery.

For durability & reliability of phone parts in 2+ years, it's better to go with brands like Huawei, Samsung, OnePlus, and maybe Oppo & Nokia as well (avoid entry level Nokia phones).

Chhatra Bohara, 30 Jan 2021 Redmi note 9 the worst smart phone ever used, I'm def... morejust because you bought one of the worst phones that the brand sell doenst mean that all of them are bad, stop thinking that.

Terrible Phone. I used this phone for less than 24hrs and returned it. Thank God i bought it as a display phone and was able to return it.
                            1. The phone lags so so much even after wiping the phone. This would have been my first Xiaomi phone but i has to return it.
                            2. It drains battery. I have never seen a phone that drains battery like this phone.

My last device was Tecno Pouvoir 3, i am a fan of Tecno but wanted to put an end to it after my last phone got stolen, but with this bad experience that i had with this phone, i think i will just stick with Tecno brand or try Remi 9T since its a 6000mah phone

The phone lags so much. I feel like I was scammed. I saved my money for this phone and this is what I get. Before, I get 1.9 to 2.7 gb ram available. Now, its just 900mb below. Simple social media apps like Instagram LAGGSS SO MUCHH IM CRYINNNGGG. I dont know what to do. I tried resetting it for the 7th time and removing the bloatwares. I really had high hopes for this phone. I just wish its just a software issue because if its the hardware, I really dont know what to do.

It's to much hanging any time. I can't do anything. I have to turn off mobile and then turn on. Then it's okay. Bt it's to much hang.!

I still use Redmi Note 5 from 2018 with 3gb ram, and still running flawlessly. As long you know how to use your smartphone, even 3gb ram is more than sufficient.
