I bought this for UK 5G market in 2023. I accidently bought the Chinese version. So I downloaded various versions of the os from MI. Eventually I have Android 13 and MIUI 14. It is rock solid apart from it default to mi app store in Chinese instead of google play. It's been working fine up until now. The fingerprint scanner has stopped working. Everything else is fine, so I bought one for £3 from aliexpress. I'll see how the installation goes. It never locks up and I don't have to reboot for weeks on end...battery still strong. I'm a 67 yo user

Specs are not bad pn paper but miui is an abomination on mankind. Unless you want your music app to randomly close in the background every time you open another app, or even when phone is idle, i recommend you stay away from this trash.

        IceTy, 17 May 2023Does it have VoLTE?Yes

          @jingaro29

          Let me get this straight.

You bought the phone new and you don't have warranty? How does that work?
And you're telling me this brand new phone that doesn't have warranty also stopped working after 2 weeks? Buddy, that phone ain't new, you got scammed.

As for repairing by heating the chip, you might as well microwave it like those dumb iPhone users did back in the day, it fits your IQ.

Is it possible to manually switch between 2G/3G/4G/5G networks in MIUI 14: V14.0.4.0.SJEEUXM? Simply switch in the SIM settings, not via service codes. Or only automatic selection remains?

Mine using for 2 weeks suddenly phone cant on anymore.i had no warranty for this model.i bought new ,export set.i believe its hardware fault, not software .Anyone knows how to bring alive from the dead for this model.Ive heard, need to heat up the chip.

I've had this phone for a couple of years and it is still going strong -- despite the fact that I am very hard on my devices and drop it multiple times every week, occasionally getting it somewhat wet. (I do always use a case and screen protector but a normal one, not an otterbox or anything heavy duty).
It is one of the few lesser priced Xiaomi phones with enough North American LTE bands to work with both TMO & AT&T MVNOS in the USA (only the MVNOs -- TMO & ATT proper as well as their subsidiary companies tend to block global phones). I use an ATT MVNO and once I punched in the proper short codes to disable carrier checking, phone is fully functional in terms of both Volte and Wifi calling.
The only gripe I have (and it is present on most Xiaomi Redmi Models) is that after a while of using it you get this issue where you have to reboot with the USB in to activate charging. There are a few fixes out there (apart from carefully cleaning the port) but turning on "battery saver' in settings worked for me to restore normal charging without having to reboot.
Pretty sure it is Xiaomi updates that cause this annoying glitch.
Please note this model doesn't do cordless charging if that is important to you.
(It does have a 3.5mm headphone jack which I cannot do without).

IceTy, 17 May 2023Does it have VoLTE?Yes, it definitely does. If you live in the USA, you have to use short codes to disable carrier volte checking and then volte works but in every other country, volte is automatic

Fast Charging is 22.5W in box adapter. Not 18W

                                    Received MIUI 14 with android 12 @ 4/2023..
                                    ---------------------------------------------------------------
This phone slowly becomes an "old" phone with kinda low ram, but it seems that it still holds up to the task.. And ofcourse still holds up for the 5G that it has...

Also wanted to add / share some information about the wifi..
Max speed at 2,4Ghz=72Mbps link speed. No support 40mhz channel.. True speed ~50Mbps..
Max speed at 5Ghz=433Mbps link speed.. I suppose due to 1x1 antenna hw limitation.. The chipset (dimensity800u) has support for 2x2 antenna and 866Mhz link speed but this is not the case.. Speed is limited to 433Mbps.. True speed ~320Mbps..

Also with the bluetooth on that shares the 2,4Ghz spectrum the wifi speed only on 2,4Ghz drops significantly.. I guess this is a problem on other phones too..

I tested the above on my redmi 8, and the tests had exactly the same results..

And one last thing... The memory extension by +2Gb, it seems that it is not in use..
It still is kinda slow... You can only keep open 1 app.. If you open a second one it reopens the 1st and does not keep the information if not saved on the 1st app..
Also the camera app it is indeed kinda heavy....

After android 11 with the miui updates, the phone became heavy and slow to use...
The android freezes at sometimes and closes/reopens..
But it is still ok up to a point.... It still seems to hold up..

I've owned this now for 2 years. It's really slow, the ram isn't sufficient. You can only now open one app at tla time. If you can revert to the original ROM do it and never update because the new miui is heavy. Camera is good if you can get it to not freeze up
