Anonymous, 23 Jul 2024Guys just a quick heads up: There is a 5g version of this ... moreTo cover more than one market segment and different user needs. I have a 5G mobile phone, I don't need a 5G tablet. If I did, 4G would be good enough. So Pad Pro is good enough for me as I don't seek top performance in tablet for document reading, surfing and e-mail. 12.1" screen is big enough. There is a 3.5 mm headphone jack which is also excellent (I have BT headphones but hate charging them all the time). SD card is a plus. Not interested in gaming.

Anonymous, 08 Jul 2024For all the fawning over hardware, not enough focus is give... moreFor all these issues and more quality sound, better calibrated display more quality construcction feeling the honor pad 9 is a better option than this one. Magic OS is smoother and lot less intrusive / disrupting. Full compability with all the play store apps etc. I despise the experience hyper os in non higher end devices of xiaomi

Out of nowhere the pad just lagged and shut down..and the Operating system isn't working anymore. I know it's great Specifications for such a price. But don't You fall for it and lose your money.. Mabye gather up some more and but the xiaomi pad 6 or something. It's better than wasting your money on a device that doesn't work

                Or

Get the Lenovo P12, best tabs for this price range. Neither is particular good at software still i choose the Lenovo in software. I bought the pad 6 and I´m quite happy, after tunning and debloated their apps

Anonymous, 08 Jul 2024For all the fawning over hardware, not enough focus is give... morehey all valid points it's true but I don't think it's just related to Xiaomi/Redmi. I've used Samsung, Realme, Moto, Honor, Oneplus, Vivo and poco.

Loved Samsung UI and their commitment to updates. But the current phone I own A53 is very bad for the price it was released for. Infact, most of the samsung A series are overpriced. A52s was their last best with good price performance ratio. For longevity, S series FE seems to be the cheapest cost. While I do think even that's overpriced, I used S23 FE and S21 FE, both decent phones at the price with good performance. The budget phones like A0Xs, M and F series, are indeed budget. But for entry level phones they are no at all bad. For casual users, aged and relatives you hate with all your heart- it's enough.

This was just what I feel about Samsung. Other companies are more or less the same. I do hold Realme GT series in high regard.
Anyways, if you'd be kind enough to recommend me a tablet at less than $360, which offers good performance at a lower price then definitely I'll let you have this win. The only thing that comes close is S9 FE at 360, but Redmi Pad Pro costs even lesser where I'm from (bout ~300 without pen, cover or keyboard)

The eye care display makes this pad better than iPad pro with those blue screens. After buying the pad I was disappointed with the low multitasking level it offered, the pad before iPad mini 2019 is still a literal MONSTER you can't fill it's RAM!! with a midrange pad from 2019... But here there was lags while multitasking, however when I adjusted the memory extension from 4gb to 8gb now it flies. I have a almost world class multitasking device at my disposal. The iPad mini never lagged bro. It was such a a experience...

But, you are right, their price/performance ratio is far better than Samsung's.

I think in the end it comes down to what people prefer most. If someone wants better software updates and slightly better looking Ui (more colorful), they should go with Samsung tablets/phones. For better price/performance ratio and Appleish looking Ui, than they should go with Xiaomi/Redmi tablets/phones.

Anonymous, 23 Jul 2024Guys just a quick heads up: There is a 5g version of this ... moreWhat do you mean so many versions? Is normal for every tablet out there (even iPads). They have Wi-Fi only version and 5G/4g versions.
True, there is a Poco Pad now, which is exactly the same tablet but made by Poco. But, even in this case is nothing new. Almost all Redmi products have a similar correspondent in Poco products.

Why do they make so many different versions of the same tablet I don't get it?! Only adds to the confusion.

I just received monthly security updates on my redmi pad pro. I Will be waiting for someone who had gone through the process and waiting for their thoughts on this new update.

                                        • 08 Jul 2024

For all the fawning over hardware, not enough focus is given to the rather buggy and intrusive operating system.

There is constant pressure to create a Mi account or suffer some loss of functionality. For other functionality (screen casting) you need other Xiaomi devices. Also, if you use the system optimizer or whatever it is called, you'll get three dots for the multitasking menu at the top of the screen always. This has been the case for at least six months. It cannot be moved or removed without disabling the optimizer thing.

Many apps---including Gboard and the two major non-ad-supported PDF readers---need to be completely restarted after changing settings or else there will be problems. (In the case of Gboard, swipe coordinates are not translated correctly with certain keyboard size/location settings.) You cannot disable autoconnecting to a saved wireless connection, which is annoying e.g. if you connect devices like a Sony Alpha or an Allen and Heath mixer that connects using its own Wi-Fi network. Background image can't just be removed; it has to be replaced with a plain color image using a third-party app supporting "use as wallpaper".

Some apps which makes sense for removal (YT Music, a handful of other Google apps, some of the branded system apps like Music and Gallery) cannot be removed nor disabled. Yet other apps (La Marzocco) are incompatible with this tablet but not other Android 14 tablets.

There are weird things like the power menu animation dots spazzing out when animations are disabled or a weird flicker that happens when the screen is rotated in Kiwi browser. Swiping down from the upper left is a different menu than swiping down from the upper right. The three icon navigation (instead of gestures) is not implemented well: some apps will draw underneath these instead of changing their window size.

I heard they implemented their own TEE (keeping secure data secure) which is frankly a bit dumb with the amount of security research that has already combed through existing TEE solutions. No thank you. Depending on how you plan to use this tablet, I would recommend NOT installing banking apps, password managers, or anything else you wouldn't want the government or motivated capitalists casually discovering one day. Unless you personally understand cryptography and can step through their TEE line-by-line, you should assume it has bugs and/or backdoors and just make reasonable-yet-safe choices.

One feature I hoped to see that is missing? being able to play audio from the tablet speakers via Bluetooth like the new Lenovo tablets...

As is tradition with non-iOS platforms, Xiaomi has added a lot of visual flair but forgotten to properly bug test all of the functionality. HyperOS is a flipped home: new tiles, curtains, carpet, better HVAC but DON'T PEEK at the underlayment or plumbing! The lawn was green when you bought it... was it healthy grass or just dry weeds covered in paint?
