GPS is very poor, inaccurate and unreliable. Even the inbuilt system test fails giving a time-out error.

Hi I bought this phone red mi y1 ...when 3g/4g network it was working good but when in 2g network it was operating automatically , open anything, when call to the one person automatically it was calling to another person and when i open browser it was opening & closing automatically...started facing problem with 4 months after i bought this phone......finally i changed my phone, i lost in financial(Rs. 11999/-) .. mi owner please give back my money... worst phone....hardly recommend to do not buy this phone.

A terrible problem with audio recording even if audio in video recording.

Irfan Irfu, 16 Jul 2018does any one updated to MIUI 10 beta MIUI10 is in testing stage. So far 2 or 3 beta versions have come out, each with its own set of bugs.
MIUI10 is not based in OREO, its just a cosmetic change to MIUI9.
XIAOMI has recently introduced a security feature called ARB or 'Anti Roll Back', which means you can not revert a upgrade to an earlier one (google XIAOMI ARB).
If you upgrade from a stable version of MIUI to an unstable one you can not revert this change.
So, by upgrading to MIUI10 you can end up with a crippled or completely inoperative phone and the only solution is to wait for XIAOMI to sort the problem or if you're in a hurry, buy a new phone.
If you look at MIUI forum, you will notice that many users are now 'trapped' in buggy versions of MIUI10 without the possibility of restoring their phones to a fully functional status.
What's more, XIAOMI invite users to test their beta versions of MIUI10 but does not clearly warn them about the dangers.
Maybe its a way for them to sell more phones or are simply toying with their users.

And Came... moreYes I agree, this phone has some nice features, but can you actually do audio or video recordings with reasonable audio quality?
A quick google search for 'redmi recording problem' reveals the extension of this issue.
It seems that nearly if not all REDMI phones suffer from the same problem.

This happens to me occasionally... moreYes, the same here. Its one of the many bugs that persist upgrade after upgrade.
Sometimes it happens twice in a row, one has to be patient ....

Overall the phone is good, but the camera is so so so bad :/ and the battery lasts only one day.
The camera of my old Xiaomi, bought 3 years ago was so much better. Very disappointing.
If I knew it, I'd never buy this phone because I need clear photos for my work.

I bought one of these about a month ago. At first it looked ok but as I went further deep into its apps and configuration menus I found some serious problems.
The major flaw that I found is its inability to record sounds, either with its video or audio recording app's. The recorded sound level is so low that its completely unintelligible.
I looked for help in XIAOMI forums and google just to find out that this is a long standing problem in many XIAOMI phones, not just this one. In spite of several firmware updates I received during this last month, the problem still persists. It seems the manufacturer is unable or unwilling to solve it, so if you're planning to video record social events or your children birthday party go and buy a different brand .... unless you're a fan of silent movies.
In 4G / LTE a fully charged battery goes flat in less than 6 hours, but in 3G it can last 5 days or more under light use.
Overall this phone is 'nice' but for me the sound recording problems are a real show stopper
