I can't believe anyone actually buys this crap. The specs are repugnant. This is the kind of piece of sh-- phone that gives android a black eye. If you buy this and expect some functional level of performance you must be kidding yourself. I'd never forgive someone if they gave this thing to me as a gift.

[deleted post]I bought mine from an orange shop - the handset was £100 but it had to be purchased with £20 top up.
Argos in the UK have just started stocking the San Francsico on orange PAYG for £90. you will have to buy £10 top up tho. still, at 100 quid all in, its a bloomin' bargin! HTC wildfire is the next comparable phone but that costs £50-£70 pounds more.
the wildfire has a slower processor, less ram, a lower screen res - BUT its build quality is better, as is the camera. plus HTC sense is present.
my choice every time would be the blade - my mates wildfire crashes as much as my satio did!

Ludwik, 27 Jan 2011How is the battery life.
And I mean, from 100% to zero. ... moreBattery life - from 100% to zero with high use i managed to kill it in about 8 hours.
this was with screen brightness set to 25% and mobile data turned on only when required. gps, bluetooth and wifi were also off.
from zero to 100% the battery charges in about 4 hours (with out using the handset). but a useable charge can be achieved in 2 hours or so.

Many folks on here are talking about 160mb internal memory...
the Orange San Francisco variant i have in the UK has 512mb internal with an micro SD card slot.
as for a froyo update - there is no official update coming that i can see.. however there are folks out there that have done all the trickery needed to perform the upgrade
I would reccomend sticking to 2.1 android until such time that a official or stable update arrives.
oh, after two weeks of running the device i finally pusshed it to far - it restarted yesterday after i tried asking it to multitask - music play back, angry birds, text reply and then interent access followed by an angry birds freeze up and restart that i didnt instigate.
OH MY GOD i hear you say! but hey, phones crash every now and then, it happanes, and for a 100 pound device to do it once in two weeks when my 500 pound satio was restarting several times DAILY proves the value of this handset.

Ludwik, 25 Jan 2011How easy is it to get rid of the Orange stuff?
Will an ind... moreremoving the orange software skin and making the san francisco network free are two sepearte issues.
i have only removed the orange software skins form the device to help optimise its usage. i'm a orange customer who became annnoyed that my satio was failing regularly.
i would imagine a independant store would be able to make it network free but have no experiance on this matter.

amazing phone, i've had for about 2 months and runs smoothly. Amazing for 100 pounds plus its android as well. Its tough and durable, but the only down side is the 160 mb internal phone storage. Brilliant for what you get, i would recommend it to people who has just come to android, final thing, will it be able to be upgraded to android v2.2 (froyo)?

UPDATE to my previous post.
i have now lived with the Blade (sanfrancisco) for a week or so now and i'd like to highlight a few points that may assist you further in making your phone choice.
With the orange software removed the device is MUCH faster and capable. i have customized the home screens with dozens of free apps and widgets to suit my social networking and organisational needs.
The android market is full of really useful free stuff such as a battery meter, clocks/time&date and switches to ensure that mobile data is turned off when not needed (this helps the battery life)
the battery life is average, with average use (checking facebook, dowloading emails and angry birds over lunch) not to mention calling and texting, the devices battery was down to 30% by the end of the day... however, the usb data cable enables the device to be charged from a desktop computer of other usb socket (in my case the usb on my car stereo which also enables acces to the music on the memory card!)
oh - and if you do choose this product, buy a case of some kind! i dropped mine and the back came away form the body spilling the battery onto the floor! do'h.
(again as in previous post i will raise the price of this device! 100 GPB!)

it would if it was more optimised then x10 and it is. Because all the modifications are havy and slow down the processor , so i guess it is better to have somthing lower clock with none modifications and the best optimisation even when blade has full multitouch screen and x10 hasn't got it.
