Android ICS ROM for Galaxy S II leaks, T-Mo's S II gets an update

14 December, 2011

There are some exciting software news about the Samsung Galaxy S II - an Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) ROM leaked for the international version of the phone and T-Mobile USA's phone is getting an update that adds Wi-Fi calling right now.

The ICS ROM is still a work in progress and has issues but it's an interesting look of what we can expect when Samsung finishes up it work. It's interesting because you can hardly tell the phone made the jump from Android v2.3 to v4.0 (actually, the ROM is v4.0.1).

The most impressive bit is the new task switcher - actually, you can dismiss apps with a single swipe, which turns it into a task manager. The web browser has been slightly redesigned and there's a face unlock feature.

Check out this demo video to see the differences yourself:

You can download the firmware from SamMobile, and of course, proceed at your own risk.

As for T-Mobile's update, it brings Wi-Fi calling and some bug fixes relating to the battery and caller ID. The update will bring the firmware to build version T989VUVKL1 and Android 2.3.5.

It's available right now over the air or you can use Kies Mini to update through your computer.
