That'... moreThe lack of software optimization is the main reason why both my LG G8X's runs on Android 10 (I downgraded one of them from Android 11 to Android 10), while with cheap and cheerful K42 I took the risk of Android 12 update and hence not so satisfied.
I feel the recent software updates (after 2020) from LG have diminishing returns as most of them have a lot of niggling issues and most importantly optimization issues. This is because after 2020, the year of Android 10 and final year when LG mobile division were in full force, every other updates that arrived henceforth mainly had optimization and many niggling issues.
The deep rooted cause was software quality control. With their mobile software division size dramatically reduced from 2021 and dwindling ever since as the resources gets allocated to other divisions ... we get the cause ... and its effect.
The 5 year old Mediatek Helio P22 SoC on LG K42 with a less optimized Android 12 causes a lot of issues to us the K42 users on a daily basis.

Also lack of software optimization make the device more crappy choppy . Too many bugs ! Still not fixed. Even laggwhile multitasking. Camera is not great , main sensor is average so OK.

In new version of LG K42 there's many bugs... At time of WhatsApp calling if u're watching or u r connected with zoom, it changes audio preferences and automatically closes the speaker. It transfer speaker to upper speaker. And it also started hanging my phone... It loads slowly..not all happens after updation of new version of software.... I hate LG now..

T4techdroid, 29 Nov 2022I just had received the Android 12 update in LG K42 , got s... moreTruly impressed, as LG provided us 2 major Android updates for their INR 7000 ($100) phone. But it was only made possible as no new phones released by LG in the past two years. So their software division which is still alive and kicking is providing us extended software support for their last batch of phones. I received Android 12 update in India last Nov, 2022. It was just 1431.70MB in size, quite small actually.

Most impressive, after update the phone did not slow a bit. As usual I did hard factory reset before and after installation. The phone still works like charm.

I got Android 12 update... Quite impressive 😁
2 OS version upgrades for an INR 7000 device.... Runs smoothly for more than 18 months now... Wish LG sustained in Mobile business... Thanks for this awesome performer LG

I just had received the Android 12 update in LG K42 , got some Android 12 traditional features! Go check and Update your device its just 1.4GB .

My LG K42 on Android 11 is nearly as fast as it was on Android 10. I just love this $100 phone. It is an unique device with an amazing LG display for its price

Hi,
For those like me who updated to android 11 and have had the fingerprint unlock lag for 5 seconds, All you have to do is to delete all exisiting fingerprints then re-register them again. This has completely fixed my fingerprint unlock lag issues.

T4techdroid , 04 Mar 2022After updating my LG K42 to Android 11 , the phone now its ... morePerform hard factory reset after Android 11 upgrade. Clean the junk and the phone will become noticeably faster. I followed the same and I can confirm I do not face such issues. But I admit Android 11 is a tiny bit slower on LG K42 over Android 10. But it was expected as newer Android versions are more resource hungry and the pesky but efficient Mediatek Helios P22 with 3 GB RAM does not help.
We have to understand, LG Mobile was in full force till 2020, the year of Android 10. And this will remain the best optimized Android version on any LG phone for a long time. I have been unhappy lately with the Android 11 update on my LG G8x, as analogue audio quality through headphone jack dipped somewhat when compared to Android 10. I had two G8X's and thus had liberty to perform many A/B listening sessions/ testing on both phones using some high end headphones. One was on Android 10 while the other running Android 11. With Android 11, some high frequency details in audio are missing and also Meridian Audio tuned sound signature, a trait of G8X seems somewhat tamed.
Found many users are also complaining of Android 11 update with core functionality issues like taking calls on G8X. This acted as a secondary motivator for downgrade both phones to Android 10. However K42 is a budget phone without any QuadDAC hence running A11.

After updating my LG K42 to Android 11 , the phone now its too slow , even the fingerprint scanner takes morethan 3 seconds to unlock. And multitasking is worst, sometimes apps even not respond! Performance got degraded after Android 11 update. The camera had nothing features!! Just basic ! .

Mobxpert, 12 Feb 2022It was just 1.83 GB for some usersGood to know you have received the OTA update. I updated my LG K42 from Android 10 to 11 just because it does not have QuadDAC.
As all knows LG Mobile is out of business from Mar, 2021. So with ANdroid upgrades now they are no more concerned about preserving pure analogue audio quality over headphone jack. For their flagship devices like LG G8X with QuadDACs I had to actually downgrade from Android 11 to 10 as audio quality went haywire with A11. I performed the downgrade from LG authorized service center.

Got it via LG Bridge app on PC only. The Indian software version was available in Bridge from 28th Jan, 2022 only. Update was huge, 3.22 GB in size!
Details of update:
1) OS upgrade - Android 11

The jump in UI from 10 to 11 is not that big, it's more like subtle changes which makes the overall user experience more refined. Notification panel gets a slight revamp, we now get "Accent Color" options under display settings. Some more tiny improvements here and there. Since K42 is a budget centric device and does not come with QuadDAC, for me this update is totally worth it.
I took some extra measures for the update as hardware resources are very limited on this phone. First I performed hard factory reset on the phone. Hence the phone became factory fresh on Android 10 before update. Then performed the Android 11 update via LG Bridge. Update went smoothly, and completed fast. The most challenging part of any OS upgrade is returning back to the exact customized configuration you had before update. I avoided that. After update again performed hard factory reset over Android 11 to remove any Android 10 junk remaining. Now the phone is like factory fresh on Android 11. Then set the phone from ground up.
Till now observed no additional lag on Android 11 when compared to older 10. The system is now consuming 2GB RAM flat, 1 GB left to play with. The Mediatek Helios P22 is showing its age and 3GB RAM does not help. Still I was able to play Asphalt Nitro effortlessly on this mobile after update. K42 is a rare device, a proper LG device and comes with an inherent charm in it, its built quality & display is amazing for a $100 device, not mention the clutter free LG UI experience with zero ads whatsover.

Ple... moreYes, received the Android 11 update for LG K42 in India. However as of now the update is only available over LG bridge.
However I noticed no extra lag in Android 11 when compared to Android 10. However I performed hard factory reset after update. Cleared all Android 10 junk if any after 11 update.
