People pay more for a Tag Heur/Tommy watch not because they are fools but because of the brands..

That only suggests that Samsung buyers are smart to find out that Samsung is overcharging while Apple Customers are NOT so smart enough to find it out!

samsung rules, 01 Dec 2014Lol! You are so wrong, apple does the opposite while samsun... moreExcuse but you forgot the part where you were supposed to tell us about your bad experience with Apple service??

Samsung is good at service though, maybe one of the best in the world, however they prefer to repair devices and are not close to Apple when it comes to giving replacements. Also, Samsung has longer service times, like waiting a week for a part, which is very far below Apples performance. Samsung simply have too many models to be able to keep parts readily available at all service centers.

By the way, your phone had software for Chinese market, not "default", many side imports have this non-google setup, people who bought Xperia phones from China experience the same. A Samsung phone made for China still carries a Samsung warranty so your experience isnt exactly a miracle.

Xiaomi being a only phone company doesn't make any difference. Them being the 3rd largest in sales has nothing to do with the phone being inmovative or anything. It is 3rd largest *only* because of **one** thing. Their price.
I already mentioned why it can sell cheap: No stock, no research&development department, no marketing, no physical stores, pathetic after sales services (in my country where they have officially launched.. Some service centers require 2 months to get a cracked screen changed as they don't have spares..)

As a matter of fact most reviews of recent TouchWiz devices mentions how responsive the UI is with only few reviews mentioning an occasional lag. The problem was letting that problem out initially when it was much worse. Because the bad reputation sticks for years. Just check the comments at gsmarena and elsewhere - comments mentioning laggy TouchWiz are still there and will be for a while longer even after the problem is gone leaving potential customers with FUD. Some sites talk about a redesign coming up. Who knows - perhaps it will include a rename of TouchWiz - to shed the baggage.

Looks like it's going to be more of the same. Too much corruption and nepotism in Samsung, so they are doomed to make the same failures.

You are so wrong, apple does the opposite while samsung has far better customer service. I bought my samsung galaxy win gt i8552 from a third party seller in greenhills philippines and i found out that my software is factory default and it has no playstore and google apps so i send it back for refund but then my one week warranty from the third party seller was
Expired already so i send it to samsung and i thought that i need to pay for their service but no they just wanted me to show a proof of purchase which is the receipt even though it came from a third party seller but i still got the maintenance for free while apple doesn't do such things because all their want is the benefits for themselves but not for its customers

Anonymous, 01 Dec 2014I'm not really a fan of Samsung devices but comparing it to... moreTheir miui room is the best supported official rom in the market. It gets updates every other week. If anything it's Samsung devices that are under supported. Plus Xiaomi have a store of their own and a whole slew of peripheral products (a router even) to support their core business and they do all those at the fraction of the cost.

I believe what we see -more than anything- with those Chinese companies is specialization. You have to remember that neither Apple or Samsung are phone companies, they merely branched there to "refresh" their revenue steam. Xiaomi *is* a phone company so they're able to do everything more efficiently and with focus. It's no surprise that they're number 3 and soon they'll be number 2 in sales (I expect them to rival apple in sales)...

Samsung cannot compete on magic against Apple in the high margin high end segment and neither on price against Xiaomi in the low margin low end segment leaving it to stay where it is - the low margin high end segment. Deal with it - by further refining quality and looks while keeping prices moderate and not allowing preventable imperfections. In particular, lagginess in TouchWiz should have been fixed before it became a runaway reputation. Apple may be the Mercedes. And Xiaomi may be the Volkswagen. But that leaves room for someone as the BMW (or Audi).

If this the sign of continuing their existing business strategy they will be dead in China and India by 2015. They simply cannot compete with others offering better devices at prices lower than their own average marketing cost per phone ($14 billion / 120M sold = $120 per phone in 2013).
