First of all. Mediatek is from Taiwan, not China. I do think it is better to indicate that. Even tho many people use Chinese to represent both country, but it is better to separate. Hope GSMArena will correct that.

Back to topic, I'm very interest in this SoC! Seems very promising, but now, it is down to WHO will use this nice SoC on their headset. Since it is from Taiwan, I think Asus can considerate it. Their Zenfone 2 is currently running Intel, and planning for Snapdragon. Why not this for the next upgrade?

I'm betting on the nextgen exynos in it's 14nm architecture, lpddr 4 ram, and a brand new GPU. The Note 5 will be the phone to beat.

AnonD-294135, 12 May 2015apple designs. samsung manufacturers Apple designs a SOC configuration, such as CPU+GPU+Modem, for whatever their power consumption requirements are, but not each microprocessor individually. The latter is a job of Qualcomm, Samsung, Nvidia, etc...

And next would be four-cluster architecture with 12 cores.
4 cores for min cluster, 2 for lower mid cluster, 2 for upper mid cluster & 4 for max cluster.(I should patent this right now.)
Soon we will see SoC with 256 cores with only 4 cores active.

10 cores and counting, still not getting close to the real life performance of iPhone 5s, far less the iPhone 6. The spec war has turned into a ridiculous tech circus.

John, 12 May 2015Absolutely crazy. Not a single application nowadays uses al... moreNot all cores are always on, man. Only a few at a time. This does solve the issue of having to run the high cores when the low ones aren't enough, even though a mid cluster would suffice. This would allow a phone to have the kind of power efficiency low-clocked A53's give, the slightly more intensive performance needs an upclocked A53 would give, and the benchmark-busting power of the A72.

I think this is a good solution; more closely approximating the needs of an A53/A72 bicluster could do it as well, but the dynamic range wouldn't be nearly as good.

                                Props, Mediatek :-)
