But while it is planned to be finished second half of 2016 it will probably only be used in devices in 2017. Same way sd820 will be done by the end of this year (if it isn't 'done' already).
Then again they could be trying to edge closer to the iPhone release date slowly, would influence popularity probably.

You can bet Qualcomm are already in the very early stages of design planning for the 830's successor (840 if they keep this naming convention going) as well.

The 830 will most probably be out Q1 or Q2 2017 not second half of 2016, that wouldn't make sense as the 820 will be released Q1 2016.

This is all according to Samsung business plan. 10nm already been made and shown by Samsung since last May. Next will be 7nm and the last one will be 5nm. Moore's Law said it is impossible to get smaller than 5nm. That just how physics work. The smallest ever created by Korean is the 3nm by KAIST university. Then, we start using graphene to achieve the 1nm. After that, we achive 180 picometer using atom. Finally, we will be using nanotechnology to replace all of the above. That is when nanoelectronics comes in. 5nm is predicted to be used by 2020 so, nanotechnology will arrive somewhere around 2025. Smartphone will be as thin as paper. Graphene battery will replace the current poorly performing Li-ion battery. Graphene can be thinner and higher capacity with ridiculously fast charging. And I am glad I would still be in my late 20s when all this happen in by 2020s'.
